Happy mother's day!

Yes I'm a little early, but I'll be visiting my Mom and busy.....
I hope everyone has a Wonderful Day and if you can't be with your Mom or kids, you will have an opportunity to let them know that you miss them.
Feline Fan, I'm thinking of you right now especially. Try to remember the good things that happened (like you!) and try to forget/forgive the unhappy things. It is not always easy to be a Mom, we make mistakes, and we sometimes forget our kids are always the best thing that ever happened to us.

Mom's ashes are interred at Rose Hills, and on the news last night some jerk tried to pick up a rattlesnake while he was there and of course got bit. Last I heard he's in serious condition. Security can't find the snake. I wasn't planning on going up there anyway--too far.

What, cat mommies don't count? :D:

News I heard stated the guy was trying to be sure his children were safe. He put hand down in grass & was bitten. Don't think he meant to touch the snake. The family drove over a snake as they entered the cem. The guy will be fine - so the news blurps state. I was interested because my loyal Cocker was bitten 2xs on lip by a large rattlesnake. Thank God he lived! He had 6 viels of antivenum, was so swollen, pain he suffered was beyond horrid. He spent 6 days in E R hosp. -Tustin. Nothing I ever want to go through again with a pet nor person.

It's one thing to make a mistake in childrearing on your first kid. But by the time I came along, mom had two older kids to practice on, and two more came after me. What kills me is that at her funeral one of my aunts on my dad's side was saying what a natural mom she was. If my siblings had been treated the way I was, that's one thing, especially all our lives. That would most definately been lack of parenting skills. But to single me out and treat me differently after I was "diagnosed" as having a "learning disability"--which took me 35 years to figure out I most definately do not have--that's a whole 'nother beast.

I do not know enough to even fathom why things happened the way they did, and I'm truly sorry that you did not have the relationship you wanted. I think
that maybe your mother just had no idea on how things should be handled- when you were a child, children with "disabilities" were treated VERY differently than how they are now. I've seen huge changes in just the last 15 years- for example, I was told that my son's autism was caused by a lack of warm parenting by a doctor who probably hadn't cracked a book on autism in the previous 40 years. That "theory" was retracted about 1968, yet I remember it being in my Nursing books even into the 80's. I was told he belonged in an institution, even though he is able to take some college classes now. I was told there was nothing that could be done to increase his
language skills (he wasn't speaking then), even at a time when UCLA was doing early childhood interventions. Sometimes the "experts" are ignorant, and parents did not have the resources then (like the internet) to know better.
All this is not to say that it was "OK" things happened the way they did, just to lend some ideas on certain factors.

My daughter sent me a nice Mother's Day Card, and a picture of her glued to a piece of wood. Also on this wood frame was glued, Corn, Rose hips, Pasta circles, and her name in pasta noodle shapes and coffee beans. Also Raffia string tied through two holes for a handle.
