Bru's eye surgery

just a quick note cause i'm typin pretty much blind here yeah i'd second 'the saint' or 'saint bru' you have no idea what he's done for me the past month. after the last surgery i was acting absolutely intoxicated (which i've never been in my life so I hear it was a sight to see) giggling and wobbling all over and he kept me from falling down and or crashing into anything.

the man is a saint, no doubt. I often have said that i don't know where he hides his wings and halo but they do exist.

i love ya'll and miss you guys i'm in a lot of pain right now my eye is not liking the surgery having been repeated twice in one month i've been trying not to take the 'fun' pills they gave me because they make me ride an emotional rollercoaster after they wear off laughing/crying etc all over the map but i might not be able to hold out much longer the pain is really getting to me.

it was such a bummer to wake up and not be able to see much again. but i keep telling myself it's only temporary...it's only temporary...and hopefully that'll be so.

So I wish we'd called this thread "Stupid eye tricks"

Went in for check up today- and now the waiting begins. It's healing, which is good news. bad news is its taking time. of course being it was subjected to two iridotomies within two weeks I don't know what I'm whining about.

So for two weeks I keep putting in drops, stitches stay put, the big honkin' 'bandage' contact lens that I so love *insert sarcasm here* stays put. But I've nothing to complain about really, I know that. It's just that patience has never been my strongest suit.

hardest part is waiting for a lens which can't be fitted until everything is completely healed- and i've got 'one and a half' vision not quite doubled but ghost images and it's like walking on the moon to try to see where i'm going. eye pressure was a bit low and they are watching my retina like a hawk due to flashing lights i've been having on and off but for now, this is where we're at.

On the 'up' side I visited my parents today and my mother was actually nice to mefor once. Did hell freeeze over when I wasn't looking? Oh well. it won't last- it never does. But I think it means that I look worse than I thought!

ps forgot to add- i asked the surgeon about trying to work on the right eye- and she was very reluctant to even discuss it. she talked about 'restoring the best sight she could' on the left and everything being 'totally well and healed' there first. makes me wonder if she's having second thoughts about trying anything at all on the other side given what all happened this time...

I think the surgeon just wants to give you a rest, and you not to worry about more than one eye at a time ;)

Us stubborn ladies must stick together, I can say this, you'll have a better chance of discussing this with her. While I found a great doc-all the bells and whistles to go behind him, he is a doorknob personality wise and VERY hard to talk to about recovery-I have been refered to about a hundred nurses, but if I start talking to him about Harley Davidson Motorbikes...

It's strange...anyway, hang in there. The time you're spending wondering about the right gives it time to heal as well... :)

Pixies for you healing Bru. At least you don't have to go for any physical therapy. That a killer. You just get to where you're feeling better, and this nice lady takes your arm (or leg or back) and gives it a big jerk. Maybe you're surgeon will try the super duper contacts first instead of using her knife on your eye. And will those new contacts have the X-Ray vision feature in them? ;)

Hi gang,

Just wanted to bump this up to let you all know that Bru is going to be fitted for some new contacts on Tuesday (not, this is just the fitting. I'm not sure when we actually GET the contacts). Her sight is still bad and she's been having a lot of grit in her eyes which we think may be an allergic reaction to one of the drops (which she stopped taking).

So she just wants everyone to know she hasn't forgotten about ya and she'll be catching up as soon as she can. For now she's resting the eye as much as possible. I'll be sure to post an update here on Tuesday after we see the Doctor.

Thanks for the update, Saint March. We haven't forgotten about her, either. Hopefully the fitting will go well and they'll be able to get her fixed up with some real vision soon.
Give her our hugs and well wishes for quick recovery. Must be terribly frustrating (and uncomfortable) for it to drag on this long. We miss her!

Well I'm sorry to say the appointment never went off on tuesday. On monday the pain in her eye was so bad she went back to the doctor and got a new prescription for a steroid drop. She thought it was infected but apparently it was just inflamed/irritated. It is still hurting her really bad and we aren't really sure why. The fitting was rescheduled for the 1th and she sees the surgeon again on 9th for another follow up.
