Our Marsupial Welcoming Committee

Post by lady ulrike » Sat Apr 25, 2009 1:38 pm

So, I went to the San Diego zoo the other day and discovered that our Marsupial Welcoming Committee hang out together more often than they've let on. We're walking along looking at animals and come to the wallabies, and what's right next door? That's right, the wombats. So, they've been neighbors for quite a while it would seem. :)

So... were they welcoming the other animals to the zoo??

Not that I observed, but I don't think there was any new animals that day......I'll have to go later in the summer and see if they welcome the new panda that may come (they don't know if she's pregnant yet, according to the signs)

We were there last Panda Mating Time. Apparently the female is only fertile and in the mood about once every two years, and the male has to approach her while she is in a good mood- not often. All the human males listening to this info groaned and exchanged looks in sympathy. :p:

But of course wallabies and wombats spend time together. It's in their nature.

I was thinking, we could get together next week for some Cricket and tea...

I'll bring the Vegemite!

You keep that FOUL substance on your side of the Mississippi!

How that came to be the favoured sandwich spread of an entire continent is beyond me. Probably has something to do with the Prisoner heritage of many Australians....At least it tastes like something, a vast improvement over British Prison Rations.

Well, nothing tastes bad when you are drinking RUM. It goes with everything.

Given the choice of Vegemite or cardboard... it's a really tough choice. Think I'd actually choose the cardboard.
