Bru's eye surgery
Bru's eye surgery
Hi,
I'm Bru's husband. She asked me to stop here and let you know how her surgery went.
The surgery is complete, and she is awake but her eye is patched and she is keeping both her eyes closed right now.
The cataract was completely removed successfully. She was probably in the operating room for about an hour and a half, and there were some complications. They had to make a larger incision and use a larger replacement lense then they expected. They also had to use sutures to close when they were done because of the larger incision. This is causing her quite a bit of pain right now. These will probably remain in about two weeks. They said because of this there may be some issues with the vision while the sutures heal, but we'll talk more about that with the doctor tomorrow.
I asked point blank if she would be able see and the doctor said yes. The retina and iris held together, which we were worried about.
They also said there were fat droplets in the eyes which shouldn't be there, so the Doctor is going to run a pathology report on them to see what exactly they are.
They also said they put the new lense over the iris rather than under it. I'm not sure what the means or if it matters, but we'll talk about that tomorrow.
She has to wear a contact lense to protect the eye while it heals, and she had a large patch over it right now. When they remove the patch tomorrow I think we'll have an idea how much vision has returned (even though it won't all return until the eye completely heals.)
That's what I know for now.
I will try to post again tomorrow when we have a better idea.

It all sounds like good news. Please tell her Hobie wishes her all the best.
Oh yeah, Bru has told us a lot about you. You're a great guy to take such good care of her through all the difficulties she's been through. Nothing but good on you sir!

Re: Bru's eye surgery
Best wishes for the greatest outcome and tell her HELLO! :)
She still hasn't given me an address, I want to send something small to her!
It can be ANY address where you can retrieve mail, not necessarily your own,
so you won't worry about any SGTers roaming around ;)

The ktulu family is praying for a quick and painless recovery! Tell her to enjoy the eye patch, some of us secretly want to wear one just so we can go around saying ARRRRRRR all the time ;)
Ditto on what Hobie said as well, Bru has lots of good things to say about you! Nothing but respect for you my friend.
