Eye surgery rescheduled
Eye surgery rescheduled
Hey everybody,
first I hope this thread doesn't post twice my computer is acting weird today.
sorry for the silence- everyone's been sick, then the in laws came to visit then everyone got sick again but wanted to tell you I finally got to see the specialist I waited four months to see last Friday (then spent four hours in urgent care the next day because I can't get over this respiratory thing GRRR)
This surgeon is the one who wasn't taking new patients but who took me on at the request of the last surgeon- she is a specialist in anterior defects of the eye (the birth defect that is complicating the process of getting my lenses removed/replaced) and she is confident she can help me. She is literally the poster woman for the eye institute- ten feet tall on a banner in the lobby at the U.
they still aren't speculating how much vision will be restored but she was talking about me being able to read books again and that's good enough for me.
My vision is at only the barest amount of light perception in the left (legally blind) 20/400 corrected in the right eye but I don't have the glasses because it's a waste of money- surgery is the only thing that will fix this and so on we go.
They do the first eye April 9 and then hopefully I can have the other one done within six weeks or so if it goes well. They could've done it sooner if I wasn't sick ! GAH!
Thing is they have to put me out because of the muscle spasms I have as a lovely parting gift after the stroke (you can't be kicking your eye surgeon in the middle of a procedure) so that may mean putting the second eye off a bit depending on how I do with the anesthesia. they did an EKG on me though and feel I'm up for it.
If I can just kick this stupid respiratory thing- am trying to be good and rest and take my medicine. My husband deserves an award he's taken such good care of me. But I'll tell you- at this point it's ridiculous- and extremely frustrating- how little I can see.
I've been told I'm not to be cooking until after my vision is fixed.
But then, I did nearly set myself on fire.
wrong burner turned off, dangling sleeve...I was good and singed but luckily not badly burned.
Think good thoughts for me???
love ya'll
Bru
PS the first thing this surgeon did was ask me how my dad was doing. Now, she only met me once- last August, when he was still going through his testing, but she remembered. that really says something. The woman is incredible. If she does restore my useful sight to me, I'm going to make her the most beautiful crocheted blanket you've ever seen.

Sorry that you are sick and have to put up with a delay but everything else sounds really hopeful!
Sounds like your new doctor is awesome.
Now get lots of rest! ;)

Great news!! Keep us updated.

Hey Bru, if you're setting yourself on fire, just move in with Wombat, he has plenty of water :D:

I have melted utensils, burned pans, and recently have left the burners on for hours. I hope the person cooking for you is a fine chef and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Re: Eye surgery rescheduled
Glad to hear from you Bru and THRILLED about the upcoming surgery. I'm in the upper respitory ailments boat with you. I've had mine for about 6 weeks and the Dr. says it's just a virus and stick with the Claritin D and Mucinex. I think I'm finally pulling out of it. Hope you will too real soon. :D:
