Massive Layoffs Hit WDW
This is part very sad story, part Stupid Media Trick :p: .
WFTV-TV (Orlando, Fla.): Disney Layoffs Massive, Employees Say
Even though we knew this was coming, given that WDW is Central Florida's largest employer, as well as the single largest single-site employer in the US, you think they could get a better source for this news than a "friend of Disney Employee".
And this is the ABC station for crying out loud (I find it odd that they don't follow their counterparts out here in LA and mention that they're owned by Disney in reporting the story), I can't even imagine what they're saying on the other networks.
Hugs to all affected.

I found that kind of strange as well.glendalais wrote: Even though we knew this was coming, given that WDW is Central Florida's largest employer, as well as the single largest single-site employer in the US, you think they could get a better source for this news than a "friend of Disney Employee".
The online news media has been full of Walt Disney Company stories lately: the environmental policy announcement, the restructuring, the 50 executives that took buyouts, more rumors about a project in Texas....
Hospitality is making your guests feel at home, even if you wish they were.
Re: Massive Layoffs Hit WDW
Wasn't there an announcement at the beginning of the year that Disney was offering buyouts or something to employees. Also as part of the announcement it was mentioned that this would not affect front line (theme park) employees. My guess is that not enough accepted the offer and therefore some are now being let go. I would not be surprised if this does trickle down to the front lines.

First off... WFTV is a CBS station that is known for it lack of truthful news reporting.. they twist the truth well beyond the real story.
Second: its not in the "hundreds" as they make it out to be... these are management and behind the scenes positions that are no longer needed. they where created so that it would make some ones else job easier.. instead of signing ten pieces of paper... they created an extra managers position so they could take five of those papers and sign them
Like in Monorails... we used to be governed by the resorts management.. we are no under the rule of Downtown Disney.... This is going to go on for a while.. and the stories are going to get worse..... If Wallaby or myself actually start worrying.... then run for the hills....

WTF?! I thought Monorail management was separate from everything else except Transportation. You're under DTD? How does that make sense seeing how there's no monorail anywhere near there?Doctor McKey wrote:Like in Monorails... we used to be governed by the resorts management.. we are no under the rule of Downtown Disney.... Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.
We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

I dare you to do that... leave my name out of it.. i wanna see how many people come asking randomly about it. But seriously, Monorail and Watercraft where under the umbrella of the resort hotels up until the management shake up... now we report to the DTD managers.... I dont ask questions.. i just put it in P5....leftcoaster wrote:Ohhhh...is that the latest rumor ?

You are causing me pain.
I want to say it, but I really shouldn't. You're a friend and it would be mean.
But that's not enough to stop me.
No, I won't say it.
Yes, I will. You'll just have to forgive me. Or just laugh with me.
Finally found the selection, huh?
