Probable SG Alert
Ok: Warning... SHALLOW VENTING ALERT as well... I know lots of other people have way worse problems... that said....
Guess what, my SG kid brother is back in the World. I just found out he drove down there for spring break... and according to his gloating telephone textmessages, he's now a bonafide passhole. He's got no income, and no savings, credit card debt, and still trots off to the World on a whim... it's pissing me off. Look for him to be drinking from his flip-flop-flask in the Magic Kingdom, gaming the Fastpass system, and jumping lines wherever he can get away with it, because that's just the kind of thing that people who never think about the consequences of their actions do.
I'm literally seething over his level of irresponsibility. I mean... I'm collecting unemployment but I'm still financially solvent, whereas he's gone into debt off irresponsible credit card purchases, and here he is off to Disney, text messaging me to gloat how now he's at the Tiki room, and now he's eating in France, while I'm stuck here still. Now all I can think is I WANT SEARED TUNA and ESCARGOT. I can't have that every day, and I know that. Hell, at my current income level, I can't eat out above budget chain levels without dipping into my savings, but watching him, who doesn't have enough to pay his own bills run off and spend more on that sort of things, makes me question why I DON'T just shill my whole nest egg going back over and over like he does.
I'm seriously considering going to Outback for Seared Tuna tomorow.

People voted for change and that is all I have left!
Anyways.... Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

How is he able to afford this? Is he sucking off your parents? One of these days, karma is gonna bite him where it counts, then you can tell him to his face that what goes around comes around. It may seem like forever, but eventually he WILL get his just desserts.

Re: Probable SG Alert
Same way he got his PS3, Credit Cards. He's going to have a lifetimes worth of Credit Card debt by the time he graduates college. And yes... also mooching off my parents, in a way. They co-signed a 5 thousand dollar student loan for him that he didn't need for his schooling, to help pay off the car engine he needed to replace because of complete lack of maintenance (ignored the NO OIL light till the engine seized,) and his first set of credit card debt.
So what's he do? Goes and charges more shit on the cards.
*Sigh.*
And get this... he majored in "Management." Ok, so maybe someone here has majored in that and is going to get peeved at me... but near as our family can tell, he hasn't actually got a marketable job skill out of all this. He graduates this spring, God help him. Because then his student loans come due, on top of his credit cards and he's going to wind up bouncing back to my parents house, which is exactly where I'm going to be for at least a few months after my lease runs out before I move in with my SO. God help us all.

I loved interviewing dopes that majored in "Management." I'd let them run and tell me how they'd reorganize the company or how they'd double profits with to years. It always turned out that the only management experience they had was doing case studies.Mayonnaise wrote:And get this... he majored in "Management."
The founder of MCI would have a annual dinner with all the MBAs the company hired for the year. He'd get up and talk about the company, goals, etc., and close with, "I know you're all working on org charts on how you're going to redo my company. When I find out who you are, you're fired."
Many shredding machines were overworked the next day.

Well..... If he gets a clue or reads this.. he will really gto over board... that said....
According to law.... their is a time period as two which all debt will be un recoverable. usualy 3 to 5 years after last payment made, the debt can no longer be collected on unless the debter decides to do the right thing and makes a payment. I used to be in the Credit Card beusiness.... I should know.....

Re: Probable SG Alert
I was evicted from my apartment back in 2003, and when I printed out my Experian credit report, it was still on there. It won't go off until next year. It depends on what state you're in, or more accurately, what state the debt was incurred. Student loans, especially if they are Federal loans, like from Sallie Mae, NEVER leave your credit report until you have paid every last dollar. They can be deferred and/or I forgot the other word, but you can put off paying for them for up to five years. You don't have to start paying for them until six months after you have graduated, but if you want to pay them off during the six month grace period, you can. How much interest that has to be paid also depends on what you chose and the then current interest rate when you applied for the loans. When I applied for my student loans, I got an interest rate of 3.5%, fixed. I knew better than to get an adjustable rate loan.
And if he tries to erase them with bankruptcy, he's going to be in for a nasty surprise, because bankruptcy doesn't erase Federal student loan debt. The only way he could get out of paying off those loans is either kill himself or become permanently disabled, as in wheelchair bound, paralyzed from the neck down, unable to work, or care for himself. Seriously.
God help him if something happens to the parents and they don't leave him enough to pay off those loans. His credit will be in the sewer, if it isn't already. Some people just have to hit bottom real hard before they learn....
