And that's... the rest of the story. :(
Rest in peace, Mr. Harvey.

I always wondered what he was doing during those long pauses. Eat? A shot? His Taxes?

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

When I was back East with mom, we would get his show on the car radio, and I thought it was interesting. Those pauses helped build a bit of anticipatory tension. Goes back to old radio, I believe. Anyway, I remember he had such interesting stories. I remember he told the story behind "The Waltons". Boy and girl in love, parents don't approve, one morning they check her room and find a ladder outside her bedroom window. Boy and girl get married, settle down to their own farm, raise kids, and one grows up and writes the book which led to the T.V. show. He had such a wonderful voice.
Wonder if they taped his shows and have them available, or will?

Aw, man. Paul Harvey, part of the great memories I have of visiting my grandfather. Every day, we would listen to his radio shows, a news program always filled with good humor, in the best and worst of times. Though his son is good, no one but no one has the voice and personality that was Paul Harvey. He will be missed.
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Re: Paul Harvey will not be down for breakfast
I was just recalling one reason I liked the man so much, besides his radio work and "The Rest of the Story." My parents had gone to see Paul Harvey speak in person one time. When they arrived, it turned out that the event was actually an employee rally for a carpet-cleaning chain/franchiser -- the company had booked Paul Harvey to speak to their workers and then sold the extra seats to the public without disclosing that little fact. Not cool. In any case, my parents patiently sat through all of the company pep rally and enjoyed Mr. Harvey's talk.
The best moment came afterwards, though, during a question and answer time. One of the company employees stepped to the microphone and actually asked, "Mr. Harvey, would should I do as a salesman if I come across a house that has a 'No Soliciting' sign?"
Paul Harvey gave a concise, two-word answer that earned him my undying respect:
"Honor it." :D:
