A strange question?

The Rivers of America at Disneyland is this ugly green color. The Columbia and Mark Twain use the same tracks. Near Splash Mountain, at the Hungry Bear Resturant, the SG toss food over the deck area and feed the ducks. All those birds can cause someone not to swim in that water.

At Disneyland, all of the "dark water" attractions use the same water. Big pumps on the north end of the Rivers of America send water to the "motorboat lagoon", then to the castle moat and Pixie Hollow (assuming it still has water), then through the Jungle Cruise and back into the RoA.

This is also one of the lessons learned and done differently at WDW, where each attraction has it's own, self-contained water system. This permits attractions to be taken down one at a time, while Disneyland has to close all of the dark water attractions at once.

Actually, the Rivers are filled from a pipe with recycled water. It then overflows the locks underneath the bridge at Park 3, down Fowler's Canal and into the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Check the water level on both sides of the lock to confirm water flow direction. The fill pipe is visible from the WDW Railroad next to the raft dock.

Interesting. I never knew that. I always thought the Rivers Of America and the Seven Seas Lagoon were directly connected.

Geez. When I was a bus driver, I drove right over that bridge several times. Coming from Oregon, you'd think I'd know a set of locks when I see it.

Umm...you missed Storybook Land, it actually all starts there. And you're wrong about them having to go down all at once, Storybook was down for a couple of months before the 5oth and the Rivers, etc were still up and running. I think they just dam it strategically and/or can reroute around sections or something...I"m not sure which.

I would think each individual ride has its own pumps and drain. wouldn't you simply have to turn off the pumps?

From an engineering standpoint, I would think that they designed it that way, if nothing more than to allow for maintence.

They have done draining and refurbs before and did not have to shut down everything. I thought the system was over by Small World. OK who is going to get the proof?

The only waters that are connected are the dark waters as Zazu said. That's Jungle, Book, RoA, and the moat.

Hmm, I have a meeting in Santa Rosa, on 22 August, and since that town's in California, it's certainly close enough to DLR to justify a visit, right?

Anybody going to be in town then? Any particular reason I visit either before or after the meeting?

My data on Disneyland is somewhat dated. I'm delighted to hear they can bypass some of the attractions now.

I don't know what your definition of "close" is, Zazu, but it's 395 miles from Santa Rosa to Anaheim. If you can manage to maintain a constant speed of 55 mph on I-5 the whole way down, it'll only take you about 7 hours or so. Of course, doing that is something of a miracle these days, given that there is traffic even in the middle of the night. It wasn't that long ago that you could be out driving on the freeway at 11 p.m. or later and you'd be about the only car on the road. Now you can be in a Sigalert at 2 in the morning if your luck is incredibly bad. Seriously.
