I finally have one worthy of being posted
I am a long time lurker and love this board and all of you who write on it. I have been waiting for a special SGT in order to make my first post and I think it happened this past weekend.
We were at World of Disney in DD and just about done shopping. My daughter and I were waiting for my wife to get back from looking for something and we were just trying to avoid the crowds. So this lady and her three kids goes walking by. One in a stoller, the other two boys walking on either side. I move out of the way and notice the boy sticking his hand in my basket trying to grab an ornament we put in there. I immediately pulled the basket away and said, "No, we do not go touching other people's stuff". It was a stern voice, like I would use with my own child.
Anyway, the mother turns around and asks what happened. I told her and she looks at the child and he is naturally shaking his head no. I think this is the end of it and she will tell her child don't reach into other people's baskets and we go on our merry way. But I was wrong.
She then tells me I should be saying "Please". I was so taken back that she was telling me something, I didn't understand what she meant by please and I said "Please what?". Then she went on that I should say Please and that he is only a boy. I was still in shock thinking, please what..."please feel free to take what's in my basket". Anyway, she then raised her hand at me, said I should know better and that I should say "please" and walked away. I still stood there dumbfounded thinking "please what". Anyway after boiling over it the rest of the night I figured out she probably was telling me I should say please do not reach into my basket and touch all my stuff.
And they wonder why kids have no respect for anything anymore. Let's make sure we say Please and not "no".
Naturally as I was replaying the incident in my head that night I then came up with some great comebacks. Like:"In this country, we tell our kids no", and "In this country, it is not ok to reach into other people's basket to take or touch their stuff", or "A good parent would teach their kid that it is not ok to touch someone else's stuff and wouldn't say please". (As a side note, I am reading this thinking about Psycho from Stripes, "None of you guys touch my stuff") Maybe its me, but the please word to me sounds to optional. There is no option here. You do not touch someone else's items without asking. Granted, if he had reached in and said this is pretty, can I show my mom, I would have said sure, but that didn't happen.
Oh, as a side note, I beat a line cutter at his own game. We were in the Animation area and Sorcerer Mickey was signing autographs. My daughter ran ahead and got in line as this kid came running up and cut in front of me but was still behind my daughter. I stepped over the chain and looked at him and said, my daughter. He had this look like how dare you cut in front of me. Then as we got closer all of a sudden he had 10 others with him waiting to get a pick with Mickey. I was just thankful they were all behind me. It brought a little smile to my face. Funny enough that was the same day the other SGT happened. It was my lucky day.
Ok, I need to wrap this up and go back to work. Glad to have finally posted something and thanks to all of you who do post on a regular basis and keep me entertained.

Re: I finally have one worthy of being posted
I would have been forced to say "please correct your child, before he learns that its okay to take other peoples things"
hehehehehe
Some people do not realize that teaching respect for other peoples property (and personal space) at a young age, would do to alieviate a lot of attitude problems of an entitlement minded child.
(I know that if that had been by DIL and one of the grandkids, she not only would have given the child the "upset mother in public look" which promises problems later, but made him apologize for it.)
oh...and Wlecome to the SGT, the marsupials are around, and will probably be here shortly!

You really need to watch out for those klepto kidneys, they will rob you blind.drcorey wrote:and people wonder how stuff disappears from strollers when you are on a ride.

On a more real note, in high school I associated with someone who was a known kleptomaniac. It was funny because every time something went missing you went to him and he usually had it. Yes, he was fully aware that he had this problem.

Re: I finally have one worthy of being posted
I work at school currently. There is this parent there who obviously thinks the rules don't apply to her and that she and her children are special and should always be first and get whatever they want.
This woman also visits Disneyland regularly. She often takes her kids out of school (during testing none the less) to go to Disneyland. She never listens to the staff and complains about everything. I can only imagine how she treats the employees there.
Anyway, I am actually looking forward to (hopefully) working at Disneyland this summer and running into her. For once, I will be able to say NO to her face when she tries to use a bogus fast pass or whatever stunts she pulls there.

There are no problems, just opportunities. Without crooks there would be no police jobs.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:I just think of parents like this as job security for the police!!
