I came across this earlier today.

Franky, looking at the state of most businesses. I don't think the MBA's are qualified!

Shoot, I have a B.A. and I can't get any kind of job! What really kills me is this business people think they can go on living high on the hog when people are losing jobs and homes left and right. Six figure bonuses? Sick! In my day, you got a bonus if you worked exceptionally hard and thus deserved it, but these people are getting thousands of dollars because they think they deserve it, but don't do anything tangible.

There's a news item that Wells Fargo Bank had to cancel a luxury Vegas weekend for their employees due to protests. When I was working, if the boss wanted to reward you for a good job, he bought pizza for us! No, really, I worked at such a place when I was in Pennsylvania! UPS was on strike, and I was working in a package handling facility; UPS were kind of a cross between our competition and our partner. So we had to really haul it for a few months, handling and processing packages that UPS would've handled, on top of our usual work. When UPS went back to work, our boss came around with a box of checks, shook our hands and thanked us personally, and handed us our $300 bonus checks. Later that week we got pizza and soda; he also bought us doughnuts every Monday morning, and at Thanksgiving he arranged for a turkey dinner to be served there at the plant, in the upstairs room. For us, those things and the satisfaction of a job well done were enough for us. We knew we were appreciated. We didn't need anything fancy.

That's all very nice, but if given a choice I'm pretty sure I'd opt for the six figure bonus. :D:

If a company has sales people that are closing business worth millions then the rewards will increase. Their comp plan is usually set up so they get one to two percent of the sales price. And, once they hit their sales goal for the year, accelerators kick in that increases the comp amount.

A company I worked at had one sales guy close a deal with the US Air Force for $120 million. It took four years to close. Another did a deal with France Telecom for $150 mil. That one took two years. You can figure out what the sales guy got. The company was very happy to pay them.
