At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

The second oldest cat was a Rex-Sphynx cross named Grandpa Rexs Allen. He died aged 34 years 2 months, in April 1999. The same gentleman in Texas who owned Grandpa also owned the oldest cat, Cremepuff, who died aged 38 years 3 days. I don't know what her breed was. She's listed in Guiness as the oldest cat.
Actually, the enzyme that causes human allergies to cats is in their saliva, not their dander. Because cats clean themselves, the saliva gets on their fur, dries and flakes off, becoming airborne. Cat allergens are very persistant; even if you thoroughly clean everything, it still can take up to four months to remove all allergens. Dogs also have allergens, but since they're heavier, allergies to dogs are far less common. However, some cats don't have the enzyme that cause allergies, so carefully selecting a kitty is important. Unless you want to give the cat baths once or twice a week--which, if you own a Sphynx or Sphynx cross, you need to do anyway, because their lack of fur leaves them very oily, and bathing once or twice a week is needed--you're going to either have to use antiallergy bath wipes on the cat and use an anti-allergy spray, or stock up on antihistamines.

I thought he would say "Stock up on rum" which would mean the bather would need the rum or to give the kitty lots of rum soaked Cat Chow. lol.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:Bathing a cat twice a week?... stock up on band-aids!!
Another option is to give it a good dose of tranquilizers.
I have never had trouble bathing cats in my house. Most were used to it or in the case of the bad ones I would stock up the bathroom with everything like towels and shampoo then lock the door with me in it with the cat. I would fill the tub with lots of warm water then dunk the cat so that it could not fight as it was swimming, lol. Got rid of lots of fleas that way then drain the tub, finish lathering and rinse off. My dad's dog was a lab-pointer mix and he ripped out some of the bathroom wall including plaster and tiliing. Years later I had to replace the lathing then slowly build the wall back up. Burned out the hair drier trying to get the plaster to dry.

When I worked for the phone company I replaced a destroyed phone at a vet's office. He said a German Shepard ate it. I kept looking over my shoulder.

All you had to do was listen for the theme from "Jaws", if it started, plug the new one in and run!!hobie16 wrote:When I worked for the phone company I replaced a destroyed phone at a vet's office. He said a German Shepard ate it. I kept looking over my shoulder.![]()

Not only do you have to bathe a Sphynx twice a week, every day you have to clean their eyes, ears, and around their claws, because the oils and dirt get in because they don't have eyelashes or ear hairs, and you should also brush their teeth with special kitty toothpaste and toothbrush. Actually, all pets should have their teeth brushed at least once or twice a week, to prevent not only dental disease, but other health issues related to poor dental hygiene.
Yeah, if you want a low maintenence kitty, get one with fur. If shedding bugs you, long haired breeds actually shed less than shorthairs. You will, however, need to brush them daily, or you'll be faced with a matted and very unhappy kitty.

Yes, but have you heard of the underground cat juggling circuit?
They are trying to stop them, but they havn't been successful.

It's a very small operation, largely because so few cats live underground.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:Yes, but have you heard of the underground cat juggling circuit?
