Looking for input on possible DLR trip
I am being given a trip in June for graduation and I have several options. First I could go to Sandusky, Ohio to play at Ceder Point and visit some other places in the area. I also have the option of driving to So. Cal. with a stop in Las Vegas to see a couple of shows. The dates for the trip are set to be from May 31st to about June 5th or 6th. After Vegas we will spend most of our time at DLR with probably 1 day at Six Flags. I am wondering what the crowds will be like during this time period in all of the parks and what would be the best day to visit SF. I have other options for the trip, but these two are the best ones.
Thanks in advance for any input you can give.

Re: Looking for input on possible DLR trip
Like all theme parks, Six Flags is probably less crowded during the week, but I wouldn't go there unless you like all the extreme coasters. Are you going to stay overnight in the area or at DL? There are hotels and restaurants just down the road from Six Flags that might help with meal and parking costs (as well as a city bus that helps with the walk). Board X can answer your trip planning for Disneyland, and I think one of our SGTers lives in Vegas and could tell you about that.
Six Flags is approx 1.5 hours from DLR when not mucked up with traffic jams.

Re: Looking for input on possible DLR trip
I know about what to expect with going to SF from DLR, we have done that several times, though I haven't done it recently. We do love roller coasters, that is why Ceder Point is the other option for my trip. We will only be doing the parks on weekdays because we remember how bad they can be on weekends, that is why we are using the weekends for travel. I am mainly wondering what to expect from the crowds during the first week of June. Are there still a lot of people in school at this time so they won't be there? I think it is just before Summer rush really starts, isn't it? Last time I was there was when TSMM first opened and it was packed shoulder to shoulder back in Critter Country and we just decided to leave right then. So, how are the crowds in DLR going to be during the week?

Mardi Gras is held at least six time a year in San Francisco. There's always something going on.Lasolimu wrote:...what would be the best day to visit SF.
Dress warm. Mark Twain was suppose to have said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." Whether he did or not, it gets damn cold there.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Are you suggesting I add MM to the end of SF and make it SFMM to avoid confusion?hobie16 wrote:San Francisco.

Looks like Semester ends June 4th for Santa Clarita Valley Schools near Six Flags, not sure when it ends for San Fernando Valley.

The first week of June will be busier than the true off season, but there should still be some schools that won't be out yet so it probably will be less busy than a week or two later.
Plus there's that whole economy thing, so honestly, it might be slow (relatively speaking) the whole summer.

This is kind of what I was expecting, but I have generally found that weekdays are less crowded and we won't actually be spending any time in the parks on the weekend; those are for traveling.lady ulrike wrote:The first week of June will be busier than the true off season
The general plan right now is the leave the May 31st and drive down with a stop in Vegas to see a show and spend the night (Some of us could make the entire drive in one day, but it isn't easy for my parents anymore). Then on June 1st finish driving to Anaheim where we will spend a few days. I am not sure of the return date, but we will leave the day before we are going to get home with another stop in Vegas to see another show.

Re: Looking for input on possible DLR trip
Alright, I now have a basic plan for either trip (don't want to get a detailed plan until I decide which one to do although these are pretty detailed).
Ceder Point:
We would fly into the Evansville, IN airport Sunday morning and get a rental car and go spend some time at Holiday World in Santa Clause, IN. We would leave early enough to drive up to Cincinnati, OH to spend the night. On Monday we would go to Paramount's King's Island and spend most of the day there, but leave early enough to drive up to Sandusky, OH (another option is to spend another night in Cincinnati, and drive to Sandusky the next day, this may be a better option). We would then spend the rest of the week there and drive to Cleveland, OH to fly home on Saturday. We could also do this in reverse with starting at Ceder Point and ending at Holiday World.
DLR:
We would start driving down Sunday morning and stop in Vegas Sunday and see a show(Penn & Teller or something else). On Monday we would finish driving to Anaheim where we would spend the bulk of the week except for one day at Six Flags Magic Mountain. We would start driving home on Friday with another stop in Vegas to see a second show(what we didn't see the first time). We would then finish driving home on Saturday.
So, based on these trip ideas which one do you think I should take considering amount of fun had with the cost of the trip and crowds in the parks? If you tell me DLR, recommend a second show for me to see in Vegas(remember that I will be with my family and my Mom won't do any of the adult shows). I am currently planning on Blue Man Group for the second show, but I am still open to suggestions as I have seen it before.
