BTW, my now Young Man enjoys EVERYTHING at Disneyland, always has, and waits patiently in the same long lines I do......Did show impatience once to get in when he was 4....never has been tortured there.
The GAC is a tool used by CMs to help guests with hidden limitations. It is not a head of the line pass. Guests with obvious disabilities like wheelchairs do not need the GAC unless they have hidden limitations like blindness and deafness.

DLR is much more strict because there is not that much they can do for a disabled guest. WDW add sun and autism to what services they offer. Disney can ask if a guest is disabled but not ask for details. At WDW they offer persons with sun sensitivity and heat related problems a stamp on their GAC that tells the CM to let the guest stay in a shaded spot if possible. The seperate waiting area usually is just a line to the side.

The GAC is to let the CM know that a person has limitations. They know that the person cannot do stairs for example. New rides like Toy Story Mania require disabled guests to either wait in the standby line or get a fastpass. If there are too many people with a GAC then they wait in line just like everyone else in a designated area. At DLR Splash Mountain the disabled line went from the exit past the photo display then out the exit all the way to the photo pass booth and beyond. CMs put the disabled guest line on the right side and had a greeter send a few at a time into the exit thus keeping the pathways open.

GAC IS THE HEAD OF THE LINE PASS. BULL MANURE TO THAT. On some rides like Peter Pan they can only, for fire and safety stuff, allow one disabled designated car per cycle. Some like the Roaring Rapids has a parking spot for rafts and does one per cycle and two if they are running near capacity. Some rides have one boat like Small World. On some rides it can take twicce as long and even up to an hour to get on. There are only so many disabled spots in shows and if they are gone then TOUGH.

Being disabled in parks does not mean you are spoiled except for food, lol, long story. You have to wait just like everyone else and you may end up waiting long. There is no GAC areas to wait in. Some rides like at DLR Fantasyland use the exits but guess what. You form a line and I have seen 5 to 6 parties waiting to get onto Alice in Wonderland.

Why take a kid on a ride if they are having a meltdown in line? The kid loves the ride or show but gets claustrophobic. The crowds can lead to anxiety attack. On the ride your mind is constantly moving from one new thing to another but in line the kid needs to fill the need to be constantly using up their brain power. There are chew toys, beads, ipods, construction earmuffs, candy and treats, and games to keep the kid busy. The parents on disabilies at Disboard ask for opinions about rides to see how the kid will react. People give advice like which have mold, scents, flashing lights, loud sounds, and allergens. We cover a lot on that board. They are asking first so as to avoid problems.

I have SID/SPD and/or other neurovariations and mom is HSC probably and close to autism. I need to see an allergist but my brain cannot get me to make the call. I need glasses and can afford them but I cannot make the call. I want a trip to WDW but cannot stop my Toontown membership for example that would save me money. Some of you who posted your mean manure fail to understand how much them parents love their kids, that we the disabled only want equal access and a chance to enjoy life like normal people. I go to the parks and do not want to be first in line but do want help with getting onto a ride like BTR which has stairs.

We the disabled want equal not special treatment.

For more information on GAC check the facts on the disABILITIES board at disboards and learn about us.

DisneyMom this is not directed at you, for sure as you are a good person who understands disabilities.

As an adult of course I now have to take responsibility for occupying myself, and that's something you have to start learning younger. I almost never go anyplace without my Nintendo DS, my iPod, my Smartphone and an emergency snack, because I know if I don't have something to do when bored or eat when hungry it's not going to be pretty.

I've also had ADD my entire life, diagnosed in adulthood. Unfortunately, I can't take ADD meds like Strattera because I also have other medical conditions that it exacerbates. I self medicate with caffeine when necessary.

A lot of ADD management is just knowing thyself. I KNOW I get frustrated easily, and when I'm tired, Buddha help the world. It's why I LOVE staying at a Disney hotel. When I get cranky, overheated, and tired, I go back to the hotel, take a nap, eat something, watch Disney TV, and then go back a little later. I also trust my husband to be the arbiter of when the Sidhe is starting to get a tad cranky. He will pick it up WAAAAYYY before I will and I trust him to tell me we need to go eat, or get into some shade, or go back to the hotel for a bit.

We also go for more than one day so we are not pressured to see and do EVERYTHING in one day. We also park hop a good deal, and it helps with my attention span problems.

I know... I'm certainly not saying that ADDers all need a GAC. In fact what I said was any ADDer 12 or over should have the self regulation skills by that age, be able to stand in the lines without a GAC. Only very small children, or ADDers with co-morbid learning disabilities that make them unable to learn to self regulate should qualify.
