Can I keep it?

Post by Lady Heartilly » Sun Jan 18, 2009 12:09 pm

I'm new here, and I just want to say that I think it's really awesome that a site like this exists where we can get out all our vents and frustrations to people who truly understand!

That said, I have a little vent I've been wanting to get out for a while now, and it pertains to props that cast members use onstage to perform their jobs. I'm a greeter in the Magic Kingdom, and I also do parade audience control on Main Street. Sometimes, we're supposed to use certain props to do our jobs. For instance, when waving good-bye to guests, we are given a big Mickey glove or a wooden Mickey hand on a stick to wave to everyone. Now, I do get plenty of guests who say "Aww that's so cute!" or ask me to give them a high-four, which is all wonderful because it creates a positive reaction.

However, I can't tell you how many times I've had a guest come up to me while on exits saying they the glove or stick I'm using and asking me to give it to them. There is no box of gloves onstage suggesting that we have plenty to give away, and there is no one in sight passing them out. Everybody has one, so I don't see where guests get the idea that we have enough to hand out to all of them and still have one to wave to people with and perform our jobs. Have we spoiled them to the point where they think they can take everything we have? I don't even know how to respond to this question half the time while still continuing to be courteous and respectful. What I'd like to say is "Well gee, I really like your purse/wallet. Can I keep that? :D: " I'd like to hear how they would respond to that! It's the same thing with the blue light wands we get during SpectroMagic so that guests can see us if we approach them during the parade, and so that they have something bright to guide them out of the park before wishes. We've had people actually try to snatch the light wands out of our hands before saying "Can I have it?" I even had a guest one time who asked me to give him my light wand so his girlfriend could take a picture of him holding it!

If you want merchandise, we have plenty of stores all throughout the park that sells it. I don't understand why people think they can steal anything they see that they like. If you go to a restaurant, and your server takes your order on a nice-looking pad of paper, do you ask if you could keep that?

First, Welcome to the SGT!!!!

The marsupials will be around soon to make it offical!

If a Stupid Guest (SG) asked me that I would probably say something like " I borrowed these from Mickey, and have to give them back" (Nice version)

OR

"Sure, I'll trade your wallet or purse for it" (naughty version) (MIGHT get you into trouble!!)heheheheheh

I think the gloves are the same kind we bought one of our Grandsons when we went to DLR.

I think a SAFE thing to say would be that they (gloves) are available in the Emporium.

Don't let the SG's get ya down!!!

Thanks! :)

Yeah, they do sell them at the Emporium, which I tell them if asked politely, but many times they grab it and are borderline pulling it off/out of my hand as they ask me if they can keep it.

Polite CM: This is part of my uniform.

CM on last minutes of their job: I beat up Mickey Mouse and took his glove and dumped his severed bleeding hand in Rivers of America.
(stares at guest and continues) ooh what a lovely hat you have on, MINE. :D:

First, welcome (I'm not the newbie anymore, yaaaaaaaaaaahooo). :D:

I see it happen all the time, mostly in the twin kingdoms.

The Meet 'n' Greet near the Discovery Island archway is a popular "my glove" zone, as are the aforementioned Magic Kingdom spots.

Welcome! And now you have put a mental imagine in my head of a flock of SGs circling your glove and chanting "Mine, mine, mine!" ala Nemo.

From your friends at the MonoRails ( and yes.. we are better the the steam trains =-P )I welcome you.

SG's are every where and ever so much more on Main Street. I have on many times have done PAC on MS and have had on occasions been threaten with bodily harm just for asking them to get out of the road so the floats dont run them over....

If you have issues that you need to get an answer for.. at least the main street way.. ask Bert... he is your best MS resource.

Or this:

CM: You say you want me to let you have this? Let me hear you say, "Let me have it."
SG: Let me have it!
CM smacks SG on the head with the glove. :punch:

I remember a few years ago you guys had a thread where guests kept trying to take parts of CMs costumes. One lady wrote that an SG came up behind her and was trying to undo her tie; when asked by the CM what she was doing, the SG said, 'I like your tie."

A few times when I was working the Calico Railroad, a guest would ask where I got my conductor's hat. Fortunately, nobody tried to take mine or anyone else's hat.
