Wow you think they would have tried to fix the tree at least.Zazu wrote:Yes, it was a sad holiday season at the Contemporary this year. Even our big Christmas Tree outside was sad.
How sad? Just look!

They did. It just took time to do so, naturally.mechurchlady wrote:Wow you think they would have tried to fix the tree at least.

Would that have been November 30? I was at WDW November 29 - December 6. My dad and I were at Magnolia playing golf and came in after 9 - first time I've ever seen a tornado warning for Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios. We drove back and slowed to nearly 0 on World Drive because there was zero visibility. It felt like one of those videos from inside a tornado with the wind and the rain going sideways. (Strangely, we didn't see any lightning or hear any thunder, really.)Cranbiz wrote:I saw that happen and know why.
Tree was put up crooked to start, then we had high winds that day, in fact a tornado touched down in Osceola county that day. High winds broke one of the guy wires, shortly after, a crane was brought in to fix it.
I didn't notice the tree on the monorail trip around the lagoon. Surprised they wouldn't have straightened it faster!
Gawrsh, yah-huh!

It took three hours to fix because they had to haul in a big enough crane, and the nearest was in downtown Orlando. Meanwhile, they closed roads and parking areas it could have fallen on.goofyjoe wrote:I didn't notice the tree on the monorail trip around the lagoon. And yes, all of the Christmas trees at WDW are artificial; fire marshals orders.
Oh look! I forgot I had an appropriate smilie:

That, and the fact that Disney's outside trees are so large it would be extremely hard, if not impossible, to find real trees big enough for even one year let alone find them every year. For the inside trees it just makes sense for them to be fake because there are so many of them and they are up for so long.Zazu wrote:And yes, all of the Christmas trees at WDW are artificial; fire marshals orders.

I don't remember the exact day, but Nov 30 could have been it. It was a weekend and I only work weekends, so for me to see it happen, it had to be a Sat or Sun.

One of the advantages of the behind the magic Tour was the Christmas warehouse. We got to see some of the "trees" that were ready.Zazu wrote:It took three hours to fix because they had to haul in a big enough crane, and the nearest was in downtown Orlando. I pass by the holiday warehouse everyday on my way to and from work on the cast bus. I remember seeing Animal Kingdom's tree sitting in pieces on trailers waiting to be hauled over to DAK beside the building a while back. I've seen other interesting things out there too.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:One of the advantages of the behind the magic Tour was the Christmas warehouse. We got to see some of the "trees" that were ready.
