Well, it is official, Space Mountain at the
Magic Kingdom Park will be going down for rehab from April until later this year.
And it seems that SGs are already....SGing about it. In spite of the fact that MK's Space Mountain is more than long overdue for one

.
I'm sending good vibrations towards my counterparts in MK TL Attractions, lol. Hopefully, the SGs don't overreact too much to this news.

YEAH! Finally. Long overdue is an understatement. That thing needed to be rehabbed long ago.
I'm hoping the rehab takes longer than your post suggests as it needs more than a basic rehab, it needs to be stripped out and built anew, like DL's was a few years back, and I don't see them doing that in 8 months (if it closes in April and reopens this year meaning no later than December then that is only 8 months).
Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.
We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…

I agree with rebuilding Space Mountain. They have something like what we discussed earlier where there are three lines. One line splits to two loading platforms and the second line veers off to the outside and has a disabled guest loading platforn. Cars can be taken over to the disabled area using a sliding track like what Disneyland uses on the Bobsled to put them out of commission.
At least there is one out here for them to go see, lol. If they want it that bad then send them to the WEst Coast, lol.

But wasn't that just a basic refurb? I'm truly hoping that this is a complete rebuild of the attraction, that's what it needs.

According to
this Orlando Sentinel article:
"The construction work will include installing new track inside the enclosed coaster, which carries guests in the dark through a series of sudden drops and sharp turns. The layout of the track will remain the same, however.
Other upgrades will include a new enclosure for the ride's queuing area and a new ceiling inside its signature white dome, Finger said."

That doesn't mean that the TTA loop which goes through Space Mountain will close, does it?

TTA is down for the duration as well...
I wasn't happy to hear about either of these since I have a trip planned, but oh well, it happens :)

If I remember correctly it was like a year long refurb, not "basic" in my book.

When Disneyland rebuilt their Space Mountain, it was closed for about 2 years. I remember seeing in a newpaper clip the new tracks going into the coaster. I have been on Space Mountain sence they have rebuilt it and it is now really smooth. :D:
