You know them annoying papers that the school employees send home with kids? The kid got spanked 5 times in one day for failing to bring home them papers.

I found info on the coronor's report that is very disturbing. The men were shot a total of 10 times with a single action rifle which means the kid would have had to reload and fire before each of the ten shots. 8 of the shots clearly show no residue and thus were fired from at least 2.5 feet away.

Only 8 years old and he's already a crack shot? Dang, where and when does he practice? Do they have a firing range at his school? I honestly don't know much about firearms, but I'd say there was a hella lotta rage behind those shots. And at less than 3 feet away? Ow! His school should be so lucky he didn't do a Columbine on them for giving him the papers to send home.

Some things just do not add up like the ledger of all the spankings. That anyone let alone a kid could take out someone with a rifle that fast unless they did a fatal blow then in rage kept shooting. I have only shot rifles a couple of times but really reload then aim again and boy right in the right spots. I am going to wait and find out what they say as I just cannot see a little kid doing that.

One of the articles I read was that his own father had taught him to shoot and hunt. From the story, he was taught to shoot at gophers, ground squirrls, etc.

A small, fast moving target.

Firing and reloading can be done very quickly, it just takes practice.

I have shot all types of small arms, from pistols, revolvers, and various types of shotguns, rifles, sub-machine guns, and so forth. I also teach the use of various weapons. including combat courses.

Sadly, the skills can be learned, you just need to be shown how to do it correctly..then practice.

as an example, in a timed event, draw, fire two rounds, drop the magazine, reload, and fire two shots. maximum of five seconds, many do it much faster.

Firing and reloading a single shot could go quickly, if practiced. Also, the story said a single shot, but I have noticed that a LOT of reporters no nothing about weapons, and it could have actually been a bolt action with a magazine, requiring the action to be worked to eject and load the next round.

You also have to remember that the victim of a shooting will possibly have a time of disbelief (I am shot???) and in that time, not react to seek cover, or extracate themselves from the danger zone, and so on.

Possibly they will give a more detailed report. But I remember hunting when I was in my teens, and we used a single shot .22LR with iron sights, and were very accurate, and quick, with them. And we had no training, other than gun safety.

A few weeks ago, Shorty and I went to a gun range and tried out a Glock 9 millimeter. It was the first time I had ever shot anything but a 22 rifle or BB gun.

My first three shots, even with the nervousness that comes with not knowing what to expect as far as the feel goes, were just to the left of center. After the first magazine, I started visualizing someone coming after someone I love, and it's amazing how easy it became to squeeze the trigger and send the round.

If you ever intend to hurt or kill someone near me, make sure you do it from more than 30 feet away from me if I have a gun. And that's with no experience whatsoever.

If I ever have to kill, it will only be out of respect for human life, where someone else makes the decision that requires me to pull that trigger.

It took me about two days to really process what had happened that afternoon. It wasn't a bad kind of processing, but it did take time.

The only bad part of the day? There I was at the range, I finally had the nerve up to squeeze the trigger the first time, after ten minutes of prancing around unsure of what was going to happen, and wondering if I could actually do it.

I took aim, and squeezed the trigger.

Tap. Misfire. Pulled the round out, tossed it aside.

Now, because I had not successfully fired a live round yet, I had to go through all that again.

Once I had the first shot off, we had some fun.

The high school that my daughter goes to DOES have a firing range in the ROTC gym. Lizzie's on the rifle team, and they practice about 3 or 4 days a week after school. They shoot air rifles (really nice Walther's that are about $5,000 a piece) with lead pellets. The Varsity team that she's on is pretty good and will be going to Camp Perry, OH sometime next year for a competition.

And a friend of our's father owned a gun range while he was growing up. So in the next couple of weeks he's promised Lizzie that he'll take her up there and teach her to shoot handguns. She's really excited.

If the first round was a either a disabling or kill shot, all the rest were out of rage.

Ummmm, not a good idea. If the round cooked off while you were extracting it or after you tossed it, someone could have gotten hurt.

I was going to say the same thing. That is very dangerous to pull it out.

when that happens, we tell them to wait 30 seconds, keeping it pointed down range. went drop the mag, pull the slide back, and reinsert the bullet, then fire it a second time! (usually that results in the firing)

of course in a shooting situation, we have them practice the "tap, rack, bang" drill (using dummy ammo mixed it with live) Tap the magazine to make sure its seated, rack the slide for a new round, and shoot.

I remember years ago, when we transitioned to the .40, we had some rather funny stories from the range about getting the right ammo in your magazines!!
(ejected 9mm all over the range!!)

hehehehe
