Will they be offered with tracks instead of wheels for off path excursions?

Re: Segway Users to Sue Disney
I posted this at Disboards. Sorry Grumpy but it still is a possibiliy that eventually Segways will have to be allowed into all Disney parks.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:Darn, now we will have SG's that are tearing around the park on four wheeled ECV's!! At least they did not allow the Segway's!
What if a person in a wheelchair got to Epcot and they told her to park her wheelchair. She must then crawl, be carried, or walk through the gates and then wait for her party to rent her a wheelchair? The ESV would only be rented at DLR and WDW parks on the inside, maybe only 15 are being made.
Segway as a mobility device is seen by their users as the same thing as an ECV, powerchair, rollator, cane, wheelchair or other mobility device. They feel they should be allowed to use the Segway the same as a wheelchair. If the Segway was deemed as a mobility aid then Disney would have big problems. Disney cannot right now ask a guest to prove that they need a wheelchair, ADA related matters. So if Disney cannot ask a person to prove they need a wheelchair then they cannot ask a Segway user to prove they are disabled.

I'm holding out for hoverloungers myself. Then I'll float over to a counter service cart to buy my Turkey Leg in a Cup.

Re: Segway Users to Sue Disney
The thing is that Segways are NOT recognized by the ADA as a handicap mobility device therefore the ADA does not apply. The ADA prohibits questioning someone about their need for a mobility device but as Segways aren't mobility devices legally then Disney has the right to question anybody using one and to control if or where they are allowed.mechurchlady wrote:Segway as a mobility device is seen by their users as the same thing as an ECV, powerchair, rollator, cane, wheelchair or other mobility device. IF (a big "if" too) the Segway becomes a recognized as a mobility device then Disney would be required by law to allow them but unless that happens (doubtful as the Segway company does not want them to be) Disney can say no to allowing them into their parks and be completely within the law. Disney settled the suit and came up with a compromise that will hopefully make all the parties involved happy.

Re: Segway Users to Sue Disney
Wait a minute...wheelchairs have been around for ages in one shape or another, and now they're all of a sudden considered to be undignified? What next, will they demand that a retinue of assistants be allowed to accompany them for free to ensure that the food meets their dietary needs, to protect them form SGs, or to otherwise assist them in being just like everyone else, only with more privileges? I'm not knocking people who are disabled, just this crap of "the world is against me, I have rights" mentality that's taken to the extreme. It's one thing to stretch one's boundaries, to avoid being marginalized or institutionalized, and to live as normal a life as possible, but quite another to demand things that will only benefit the few.
The fact that these people didn't give their hometowns makes me suspicious. Are they locals, or tourists who will only be there a couple days a year? In this economy, I have noticed that people have become even more cutthroat than ever. Anything beats taking one's chances at trying to get a job in this economy, I guess, but suing one's way to wealth and prestige is not the way to do it. But you can't tell them that.
I agree, this stinks. Why don't they go sue Segway to make their vehicles certified medical devices?

The economy isn't why they did this. The suit was filed LONG before the economy turned sour.felinefan wrote:In this economy, I have noticed that people have become even more cutthroat than ever. Even when times are good people will do this. But it seems to me they really pick economic downturns to pull a stunt like that. Just my view.
I just checked the dates these were posted, and I was creeped out to see Randy B posting. I thought someone had taken over his account, or something1 Then I saw the dates and oh, this is an old thread, he was still alive when he wrote those posts. Whew!
