Yeah, yeah, yeah...and she's the lucky one Tourman...Congrats again!TourMan wrote:I actually proposed to my now fiance 2 days ago(yes she said yes) and did it at Cinderellas wishing well (on the right side of the castle if your looking at it from the front. I brought her there and waited for the castle to light up with the icicle lights that they do during the holidays. There were maybe two other families there and i waited for them to leave and proposed. If you want a photographer there i am sure the photopass group will be glad to have a photographer there to get the shots you need. I also went to Guest Services beforehand and they made me some buttons that said "Almost Married" (They crossed out the just on the Just Married buttons and wrote almost beneath it). Hope this helps a bit.

Re: Proposing?
This may have been overlooked above... can anyone recommend a way to contact GR prior to my arrival? I'm one for over-planning, unfortunately, so want this set up nicely.

Re: Proposing?
Let me guess. Was she a "younger" CM? I have noticed that unfortunately, especially with a lot of Seasonal people. They hire in just for the holidays or summer and boy can you tell the difference. I bet you a "real" CM would not have done that to you.EmptyCinema wrote:Yeah, well, it happens. Worst ever though was the CM who rolled her eyes at us when greeting Mickey/Minnie during EMH at the side of the castle. When we got to the front, she said "next KIDS please" (emphasis on KIDS) and rolled her eyes when my GF stepped forward. I'm not normally one to complain about things (in fact, we've had GR fill out about 4 GSF cards over our trips), but this one took us straight to guest relations after we got done there.
Hopefully I can find a better set of CMs to help me with this little task though. :)
It doesn't matter what your personal opinion is, but you wait until you're backstage before acting like a jackass. Characters are there for everyone to enjoy. We were ALL kids once, and hey when you're at any Disney park, you are.
Sorry about that insensitive CM. Good luck on your proposal!
I had my fiancee ask me to marry him in Angel's Court at Disneyland. Wow, was it magical. Kudos to the two of you for having the Disney love in you!

It was... may have been a CP, actually, I don't recall right now. Definitely not a "real" CM, if by their actions alone. :) Most CMs are awesome... no idea what they're thinking, but judging from what I see here, I suspect most have no problem with adults visiting characters. If anything, we're more organized than kids... no being asked to turn around, look at the camera, etc., and we know how to have our photopass cards, autograph books, and pens ready. :)LittleDollClaudia wrote:Let me guess. She's actually the one who instilled the Disney love in me, but it hit me hard. If it wasn't for the cost, I'd want to go down about every month. :)LittleDollClaudia wrote: I had my fiancee ask me to marry him in Angel's Court at Disneyland. Wow, was it magical. Re: Proposing?
Just to let you know, characters aren't really allowed to be directly involved in proposals. They want to avoid danger in case the recipient says no! They can't stop you from proposing during a greeting, but I doubt the attendants would be allowed to actively help you.EmptyCinema wrote:Think Guest Relations would help me out with that? Seems like a lot of trouble, but I suppose it's worth a shot for sure...
As for the CM who rolled her eyes and said "next KIDS, please:" oh hell no! If she'd been my attendant, I'd have been upset. I loved greeting adults! That's totally inappropriate behavior on her part.

Re: Proposing?
I hadn't even considered that. Well, I'll contact GR and see what they can do. I'll try to find that contact info for GR that Zazu may have posted somewhere. Hopefully I can do it via email -- the best time for my little secret planning is while I'm at work, and so that would be easier.Amphigorey wrote:Just to let you know, characters aren't really allowed to be directly involved in proposals. There's always a few bad ones... You can't get 60,000 (or however many) enthusiastic cast members with what the mouse pays, unfortunately. OTOH, if you all got paid what you REALLY deserve, I doubt most people could afford to go there...Amphigorey wrote: As for the CM who rolled her eyes and said "next KIDS, please:" oh hell no! If a CM is reported to GR for something like that ("bad show", I suppose), how seriously is that normally taken? In this case, the GR CM just wrote down the information on a small piece of paper... could've ended up in the trash the moment we stepped out of the building, for all I know.

Re: Proposing?
People have been using my name again!
But email would likely be better. It would be passed around and answered by someone knowledgeable, not just whoever was on phone duty that day. Email to <[email protected]>.
To get a PhotoPass photographer to any given time and place, visit the Photo Center (Expo Hall at MK) and ask for a manager. They'll be happy to send someone anywhere if they know they'll get a sale out of it.
To involve characters, a simple approach is to go to them. Visit Mickey at his house, fairies at Pixie Hollow (or any cast breakroom), etc. To have a meeting with a character somewhere else is going to cost you. Figure $600 and up.
From what others have posted, I guess there are limits to what a *character* can do involving a proposal. Check with the character greeter when you arrive at the location -- sometimes rules can be bent, if not broken.
However, other CMs have no such limits (so long as it doesn't interfere with their primary duties). I've been involved in a number of situations where a guest dropped off a ring at the hotel to be delivered -- in a glass slipper -- by their server at dinner.
If you can't get things organized long-distance, make friends with your hotel's Concierge staff once you arrive. Given even a couple of days, there's a lot that we can organize, even in busy times like this.
Just be prepared for the dense crowds (in both senses of the word). This is the busiest week of the year, and you may have trouble just getting to a location in the Parks, much less getting into the queue before it closes.
Thus you may want to consider booking a character meal and proposing there -- at least you'll be guaranteed access to the characters. As before, contact the character greeter when you arrive so they can prep the character you want, and ask at the check-in desk if they can call PhotoPass to send a photographer at the right time.
However the arrangements work out, congratulations! (Assuming she says yes, of course.)
I don't believe I posted such a number as I don't have one (that's public). Call the general number and ask for "Magic Kingdom Guest Relations" if that's the park you want help in.EmptyCinema wrote:I'll contact GR and see what they can do. Although I only got to participate in the Disney Magic for 9 months, (and working in the "Value Resorts" at that) I was definitely a "real" CM. CP status doesn't necessarily require a bratty attitude.
Right, now that's over with, congrats on finding your True Love. :) May we all be as fortunate!

Re: Proposing?
Zazu,
I want to thank you for taking so much time and providing so much information. You really are an encyclopedia of knowledge.
The crowds and lines don't scare me too much: we've been this time of year a lot, and have learned where to be (and where not to be) and when.
I will try to email guest communications and see what they have to say. Hopefully they can help me figure out a good way to do it.
I guess one of the hardest parts will be to find a way to alert the character attendant without it being horribly obvious. Maybe GR can help me figure that part out.
I will try to let our hotel concierge know -- doing something for her there would be nice.
Thanks for the tip on the expo hall as well -- never thought they would send a photographer somewhere. Though having a photographer somewhere "random" might be a little suspicious as well.
Zazu, thanks again! I wish I could come find you to thank you in person!
