Apparently the smoke was so bad that even Snoop Dog was coughing. And for the first time, Paris Hilton was complaining about the burning but not the itching.

Shows you're no South Bay local. I live there since *before* the 405 was built, so offramps weren't a term used for location.

Okay, later it was the Crenshaw/182nd Street, but still....

It may show he is no local, but it does show your age!

Which off ramp was lifted from a old SNL bit.

"You from New Joisey? I'm from New Joisey!"

"Which off ramp?"

"Which chemical plant you close to?"

Zazu wrote:Sorry gang, pet peeve of mine that I just haven't gotten over, but:

"Santa Ana Winds" are strong winds that come to downtown Los Angeles out of the east; from the direction of the city of Santa Ana.

"Santana Winds" are the horn section of Carlos Santana's band, "Santana".

They don't blow at all ... except into their horns. :santana:

Thanks, had to be said. Hope all remain safe.
I must disagree with the formidable Zazu. Born in North Hollywood myself! ;) I concur that the Mexicans have always called the winds the Santana winds. They are also called Santa Ana winds by the white folks. The reason for them is that there was big high pressure system sitting in the 4 corners area in southeast Colorado and the winds started to blow west from the desert. That is where they usually come from.
We have had record highs here in Denver. One slight snowfall that was barely a spit, but 70's today. Very unusual for us this time of year, though I do remember my first trip here in 1999 in November and it was 80 degrees around the 10th of the month. So it can happen, but not very often. It is warm and all the high pressure system warmth is moving around down there....

I hope it is getting better now. I heard the marine layer was supposed to come in and the winds were to die down and that would help the firefighters get a handle. Over 200 homes lost and I hope no one hurt. We have not heard on our news. I did not watch CNN today. I did hear "Reverend Jim's" 11 million dollar estate was completely destroyed. So sad for so many folks. I did hear that one of the fires was human started. I hope they hang the bastard by his nads when they catch him.
Love to all down in the So Cal area!
