"Santa Ana Winds" are strong winds that come to downtown Los Angeles out of the east; from the direction of the city of Santa Ana.
Zazu, we are at a Mexican Stand Off here. :) You are correct as to the directions of the winds. Now here is where I'll get in trouble.

Winds are Santanas, or so the Spanish & Mexican old locals pronounce this word. I grew up always hearing Santana Winds, of course we are bilingual. The two A letters in Santa Ana are pronounced as one A. Of course maybe in Inglewood you all learned a different way of saying the term. My Ca. History teachers always referred to the winds as Santanas. Whatever they are called they have been horrid! Thank God our ranch was not in the fire path. I took my dogs over to the ranch as all our horses were ready to be transported out if fire jumped over our mountain. Told my brothers to take my dogs in the cab - just save them!! We are still on high alert & have security round the clock at the ranch. Very cool this a.m., yet the air still smells of heavy smoke.

I got the Santana Winds from eating at Taco Bell.

winds are not as bad. I could take mom to the mall for example where air is clean. I think we will be fine but I am not going out side for anything unless I have to. I look at the ash and wonder if that is someone's home, a beautiful pine tree, or maybe a beloved photograph. sigh, so much is lost like the coronor's office, a high school and part of Westmont college.

Wait a minute! You are from Inglewood? So am I! Morningside High!
And as a Spanish teacher, I will verify that "Santana Winds" es correcto! SI, SI, SI! :ren:

Decent guess, but wrong. I'm from Torrance and North High.
