For those CMs who missed the very fine, dignified, tearful Veteran's Day Flag Retreat Ceremony Tuesday - you all missed a great part of D L history. Flag Retreat was like none other!! The Color Guard was spectacular! The 4, yes 4 D L Security Officers gave pride & honor to D L as they stepped out & made not one mistake during the entire ceremony attended by over 400. Leave it to Security Officer Ernie to prepare events & present perfection! I was so proud of all in D L Security because they honored the Veterans with their hearts & souls. As a side note.... Ernie was told of a Veteran at the ceremony who had been a D L Security Officer years ago. He was so thrilled to meet the gentleman - then he was told this Veteran had been awarded The Purple Heart by Eisenhower. Nothing could have been better!! Pics were taken until they had to be escorted, due to parade, backstage where there was a small party for all Veterans & their families. Can't wait for my CD of the entire ceremony.
We love the Flag ceremony! We try to go everyday when we are there. It is so moving.
Thanks for all the info on So Cal, guys. We are not looking... quite yet. But if I get my way, we will be looking into executive rentals to get out of here and rent somewhere in California and get the heck outa Dodge. I cannot take this dry climate anymore.
We did get a dusting of snow last night. Not much, just a touch! And it looks like dry and 60's for the next week now. I just hope we do not get hit with a blizzzzzzzard at Christmas when we fly out. That happened in 06 and it was not fun, but we made it. Cold here today! In the 30's.
I am just dreaming of that beach and seeing the waves roll in. I want to take a trip to Santa Cruz soon. A good 3-4 days there would invigorate me.
We are going to have to check out those areas you all mentioned. I was also thinking about Thousand Oaks and Ventura County. I know most of the whole So Cal area with ridges and valleys are fire prone. So we want to get something that is not too far out into the fire areas.
I hear something like 77 houses have burned to the ground in the Santa Barbara area. WOW!

Those are some expensive homes there. Those Santa Ana winds do a number on everything. Maybe Florida would be better for prices and fire problems. I know they had fires a ferw years ago with the drought, but it is not like the fires that happen pretty much every year in So Cal.
Oh well, just looking forward to getting to DL at Christmas and maybe trying to get a trip to Santa Cruz in the off season maybe in January or February.
I can dream...I just bought a CD of ocean waves to help me sleep at night.
I LOVE the sound of the waves. :)
