Years ago I was being recruited by Qualcomm in San Diego. My wife gave me a list of properties to check out while I was there for interviews. Most of them were north of San Diego along I-15.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:Well, San Diego might be a bit better, but if you insist on being able to see water, you are talking 1M and up! (for less that 2500SF there are some great homes inland, that have 4,000 SF and up, for about the same price.
(the BAD part about the inland homes...they are in a newly designated "fire area")

I flew down a day early and went house hunting. I found some nice places but man was it hot. I got back to the hotel about 5 PM, called my wife and turned on the local news. I'm talking to her and all of a sudden a story comes on about a wild fire threatening hundreds of homes. It took a few seconds before I realized the fire was right in the middle of the new homes I'd just looked at.
I told my wife about what I was watching and said if I got an offer we were living along the coast. I ended up staying in the Valley.
