Starring Rolls...
No typo this time, I'm talking about the bakery at the Studios.
I forgot to post this after my last trip- but is there anyone who thinks it's a good idea to let guests get their own pastry anymore?
Cause, I dude, I don't. LOL
I walked in there fully intending to have coffee and something calorie laden- until I saw the little kid literally handling every piece of bakery he could get his grubby (and they were grubby) hands on. Hubby and I looked at each other, turned around and walked right back out.
Now I admit to being a germophobe (with my body, I have to be) but come on! People are handling money and then every piece of food with their...blech!!! I can't stand it!
I much prefer the Main Street Bakery where the people handling the food are behind the counter.
Just thinking about this sends me running for the hand sanitizer!
Oh! And another thing! What is with the non-prewrapped plastic silverware? People put their entire hands into those bins- and they pull out half a dozen forks then take one and put the rest back! EEWWWW!
We're actually saving prewrapped silverware we get with take out to take on our next trip. No, I am not kidding.
Interestingly the spoons they give out with ice cream in the MK are wrapped, why there and nowhere else? I'd pay for silverware to get it wrapped!
Comments?

DW and I don't like that plastic ware, as we have had it snap while eating, plus like you pointed out, it CAN be unsanitary, as you don't know who's little darling has handled every piece.
we went to REI (a camping store) and got a small nesting set (inside a small plastic case) we leave the knife in the room (as it makes security nervous)
and take the fork/spoon. This year, I DID see a titanium spork!! http://www.rei.com/search?query=spork
not too expensive and very lightweight. I also bought DW a lightweight pair of "camping" chopsticks they are made of lightweight material.
http://www.rei.com/search?query=chopsticks
the sporks would go in a small plastic bag that could be carried in a purse/backpack or I can even put them in the cargo pocket of my shorts.

It's said that Elvis used to carry his own silverware with him. Not known to be a germophobe, but he probably did it for that reason anyway.
Re: Starring Rolls...
I would not blame you for turning around and leaving the bakery. When we were there last month, we had one of our friends go food shopping for us. We did get plastic silverware from the local markets.
A few years ago I did see kids sneezing near the baked goods at the Boardwalk Bakery. We did the same, we left because it was so gross.

In light of the number of guests that have special diets such as religion, medical, vegan, and allergen you would think that food would not be out were people could paw over the food. How do they keep the nuts from touching food without nuts for example. Cross contamination would make me not eat in any shop that sold food where people could paw over it.
As for cutlery, there was posted on Disboards a trip report where a woman's little boy somehow had his stroller pushed close to a table which he grabbed. The kid ended up with hives because he is very allergy sensitive. The mother has to wipe down all high chairs and tables then cover them to protect her kid from allergies and a trip to the hospital. It is scary that people are possibly cross contaminating silverware or even the plates at buffets and shops.
I think someone, hint hint, should be writing and complaining. Also a case like seen in the Bakery on Main Street in DL keeps the food at the right temperature and keeps food clean, prevents theft, prevents damage, and allows the food to remain in a neat and pretty display. No broken cookies or dented muffins. Just a nice stack of muffins or a tray of cookies.

We did not sneeze on the bakery items, the brats had colds and were in there with their family. After we left, the store closed down. I wonder if the cast members junked all the baked items for their own safety?

Re: Starring Rolls...
Oh I've got a titanium spork. I carry it in my bag everywhere. It's not because I squeemish about peoples hands in my silverwear (but then I eat candy that's been on the floor, so I'm a bad referance point on that) but that the plastic cutlery disappears from the office kitchen like magic every time someone brings in a box. The sales department has a nasty habit of using a plastic spoon once to stir a cup of coffee and then throwing it out... when they're out of spoons they move on to the forks, and finally the knives. There's only about 30 of each in a box, and we only get about 1 box a month, and there's a half a dozen sales people... who each drink at least 3 cups of coffee a day, so the developers have all come up with alternative methods of eating our lunches... one guy hordes pre-wrapped silverwear from the Wendy's in his desk... one eats only sandwiches, and the new girl hides a spoon in her desk every time we get a new box, and washes hers till it can't be anymore... I of course, have my spork.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:This year, I DID see a titanium spork!! http://www.rei.com/search?query=spork

Ah! I feel more normal all the time the more I read here LOL
Titanium spork, going to have to look into that. Definitely taking our own utensils next time, I like the chop sticks idea! I eat popcorn with a spoon and people were laughing at me in the MK last time but I don't care. I was a cashier and I saw so many people learn the hard way- you touch money and then eat and you PAY for it.
Great ideas all *scribbling down* perhaps when my brain clears I will drop a note to WDW about the bakery thing.
It is another peeve of mine when people handle money and then make you food items without washing hands. Like, I got a really expensive coffee in epcot and instead of making it, the person wearing the gloves kept stocking utensils until the cashier finally did it- without washing hands or putting on gloves. Then she smooshed the lid onto the cup with her flattened palm.
Guess where that coffee went.
Oh, I also quit going to the buffets in WDW after I saw what went on at the last one I went to. We now do sit down only...just not worth risking getting somebody's Norwalk cause they're too lazy to wash their hands!
Happy Monday everybody!

I eat popcorn with chopsticks at home... it not only keeps the butter off my fingers so I can compute without greasing my keyboard, it keeps me in practice with chopsticks.February wrote:I eat popcorn with a spoon and people were laughing at me in the MK last time but I don't care.
