Re: THAT Is So NOT A Parking Spot!
I live in Texas. We love our SUVs and trucks. I see MORE cars taking up two spots than trucks/suvs. Usually these are the little rice burners or Mercedes/Lexus/BMW's. My wife and I own an Avalanche, and I park it (legally) where I don't have to worry about door dings. I choose spots next to a curb, and I get it right on the curb, sometimes I do get the back tyre up on it, but that usually happens when I can't make the turn to avoid it. I never get the tyre past the concrete though. If I think that is going to happen, I'll backup and realign.
Now my Jeep (a wrangler, or TJ for Jeep people) will take a normal spot provided no one is going to be too close for comfort. I don't worry about door dings (side steps/flares help protect against that), I just don't want to make it impossible for people to get into their vehicle. That did happen to me once in a parking garage when I drove a Saturn. Climbing over the middle console into the drivers seat was NOT fun.
The only time I have taken up multiple spots was when we had our Tahoe. I was pulling a trailer with my '44 Ford GPW on it. I didn't take up the front spots either, although I could have!

That's understandable as the owner had to be crazy to buy it with the price of gas where it is. :D:Amphigorey wrote:Last year I witnessed a classic Giant SUV Asshole Move: Not only was this Hummer taking up two parking spaces - those two spaces were HANDICAPPED.

Re: THAT Is So NOT A Parking Spot!
I am reminded of the first time I ever saw a Honda Civic (lo these many years ago). Some stupid driver thought his new car was so precious that he parked the tiny thing across not just two, but *four* normal parking spaces!
This was at a college where I was teaching, and my students that term included several members of the wheelchair basketball team, as well as a number of vets with somewhat twisted senses of humor (these terms not being mutually exclusive). We all decried the parking job, especially considering that lot was normally full, requiring students to park some substantial distance away.
Some folks -- won't say who -- did more than just decry the parking job.
These unnamed folks picked up the Civic and placed it neatly between the lines of one parking space -- just rotated 90 degrees to the normal direction. They then took two large vans and parked them in the two adjacent spaces, very close to the lines, leaving the Civic less than an inch of slack front and back. Finally, they arranged car pools for the van owners so they would be able to leave them in place from Monday morning until Wednesday afternoon, or perhaps later if the Civic driver showed up and got bitchy.
Did I ever mention what a big fan I am of wheelchair basketball players and twisted veterans?

This now reminds me of the stupid people who live in my condo complex. A few years ago there was a fire in my building. Some stupid little kid try to put a couch fire out with a glass of water. The fire department had a hard time getting to the fire hydrant. The stupid people have been barking their cars illegally in the fire lane now for 5 years. They said, where it is not marked (the whole area is red and striped-NO PARKING FIRE LANE. The fire department impounded their cars. HA,HA,HA!!! I have my own assigned space. These people just don't get it. $800 for car inpound, $500 for parking ticket and $500 for going in front of the judge. Our new security company has been nailing these stupid people constantly. When I talked to security they said that the stupid lady gets her car towed at least 4 times a month. I seriously don't have $1,800 for each time the car gets towed. Also in our area, this stays on your driving record perminently. I think if the DMV gets smart enough, they will suspend her licence for life and not let her have a car. She is in her early 50's and tries to park where ever she wants. She does have a handi cap sign, but she is a care taker and the person she was taking care of died 5 years ago. She is physically fit and works at a Target across the street.
Re: THAT Is So NOT A Parking Spot!
I'm reminded of that Honda Pilot commercial where the Pilot driver rescues the driver of an oversized raised truck who ran out of gas and brags about the Pilot's gas mileage. The raised truck driver, who's sitting in the Pilot's backseat with his family, asks the Pilot driver, "but can it CRUSH CARS?!"
Now every time we see an oversized raised truck my wife asks me, "but can it crush cars?"

i remember those "parking tickets" you could put on peoples' windshields...i had some :D: CBeilby wrote:One of my biggest pet peeves are the idiots who get these freaking SUVs (stands for Stupid Useless Vehicles as far as I'm concerned,) and constantly park them straddling the line between two parking spaces. You inconsiderate pricks, just because you were stupid enough to buy a gas guzzling tank thats too big to fit in a conventional parking space, doesn't give you the right to take up two of them. Other people use the parking lot as well. If you're afraid your precious chunk of steel's going to get dinged, then stop driving the damn thing. You'll save money on gas as well. (I hope you enjoy your mile per gallon, or in the case of a Humvee, Gallons per Mile.)
