Wearing IDs on stage and off the clock

I have found that many of the CM's I have seen wearing their ID's on stage have been CP's (newbies). With a very friendly, but firm message they have put them away. Soemtimes, that is all it takes. With others, oh well............... CM's should know that if you can't wear your ID while in costume on stage, the same holds true while in street clothes. Back stage is a totally different matter.

I agree. I see a lot of CPs with their IDs out onstage.

Maybe cause it's my theatrical studies background, but I have never set off a CM radar among guests. I never have the dear in the headlights look (or do i??), but I certainly don't act like I'm an expert at park navigating.

Not sure if it is your theatrical prowness. But CM's do stick out like a bump on a log in pubilc, in street clothes. Several years ago, the Orlando Sentinel put it the best. If you want to know if the person you are talking to is a Disney CM, just ask them for directions...... The finger point gives us away all of the time. :D:

The funny thing is, people come up to me when I'm not even doing the finger point. It usually happened when I was reading while waiting for 2nd Spectro. And another time happened while I was walking through the WS at Epcot. Someone asked me a question while passing by.

Honestly, what really gets me are the CMs from certain departments (coughStorescough) who walk around on stage, on the clock with their IDs showing.

I realize that it's to make it easier to log into MATRA when they need to ring up a guest, but really, is it that hard to take a few more seconds to grab it out of your pocket? You can even keep it on the belt clip/carabiner, just stick the whole thing inside your pocket.

That has always bothered me, and I more often than not have the ID pouch in my pocket. I had a management type person tell me I was being too "black and white" when I pointed out that the Disney Look specifically forbids costumed Cast Members from having the company ID visible on stage. He used MATRA as an excuse.

The only time I will wear my ID onstage on a day off is if I am going to be going over to Company D at the Epcot Cast Services Building or at DHS Take 5. And then I am going to clip it on just before I go backstage and will remove it as soon as I am back onstage.

I don't know how to feel about this one. The only time my father displayed his ID while as a guest was for the discount when buying things. However I can understand new hires being excited and wanting to show the world they work for Disney.

Other then the dumb @$$ with "Show me a blue ID..." comment I think you all could cut a little slack. Just think back to how excited you were when you first started working for the mouse.

I don't know. As excited as I was to be a new mouse employee, I never thought that I should be wearing my ID onstage as It is bad show.

If you are not in costume, you should not be advertising the fact you work at the parks. There is no problem with helping guests but you are still a guest too!

ID comes out when needed and goes back in hiding when not needed. Period.

Even in street clothes, as long as you are visibly wearing that ID, you're representing Disney and are being scrutinized by every guest you meet. When I am at the parks to play, I want to leave work behind, not have to worry about every little thing that I do and how it can be perceived (whether rightfully so or not). I already seem to have a neon sign on my forehead that says CM, which usually results in someone asking me where the nearest bathroom is anywhere I am on property, I don't want to advertise it on my time off.

I don't know about everyone else, but I keep my ID on my person at all times, because I never know where I'll end up, and I might need it for something (I don't know about in Florida, but here in Anaheim you can get a "Disney Discount" all over town) It stays clipped to my belt loop, with the ID itself in my back pocket, the only time it's not in my pocket is when I'm in casual clothes backstage. (going to the team center or costuming or something like that)
