Had a fun, magical day with Turkeyham, BW, and a few friends.

Post by Shorty82 » Thu Sep 18, 2008 12:31 am

I piked up BW and his roommates' daughter (H) today and we went to Studios and after a while met up with Turkeyham and two friends of hers, one of which is an AP at DL (a good one) and had never visited WDW before. I'll refer to her as "M".

We go over to Rockin' Roller Coaster and H and one of TH's friends skip out while the rest of us rode. We all enjoyed it but M enjoyed it the most I think. She went on about how fun it was for a few minutes.

We then go over to ride Tower of Terror. We all ride except H (doesn't like it) and have fun but, again, M enjoyed it the most. Loves the differences between WDW's and DL's Towers. We come out of the gift shop and M starts talking to this Tower CM that was out there about how much she enjoyed it and all. The CM takes us back through the shop and backdoors us onto Tower for another ride.

I made a note of the CM's name and all so I could leave a compliment at GR later on. On our way back up Sunset we run into a manager and tell her about the wonderful Tower CM and it turns out this manager is apparently an attractions manager on Sunset and knows this CM. The manager can tell how excited we were, gets M's name to give us VIP seating for Fantasmic!. M was so happy she started crying and hugged her. Needless to say I also noted her name for GR.

We enjoy ourselves, do a few things, watch Block Party Bash, then head over to Star Tours. On the way out we're browsing through the shop when M hears this loud thud. She turns and sees the CM behind the counter going down and hitting his head on the counter. She rushes over to help (she's a nurse), pulling out the medical supplies she carries everywhere (pretty well supplied but apparently normally carries even more stuff and has "half an ambulance" in her car) and begins treating the CM. At the same time M went into "nurse mode" BW, TH, and I snap into "CM mode" and begin helping clear the area of guests and shielding the scene with our bodies while the store CMs call for an Alpha Unit and management.

The manager gets there fast and according to M was a big help (I don't know personally, I was to busy keeping the area clear to watch what was happening). The CM hits his head a few time on the way down and during her diagnosing M needed a flashlight to check his eyes but didn't have one on her so a store CM grabbed one of the light sabers they sell and broke off the saber part so she would have a flashlight. During her treatment M uses her spare socks, one for a head wound and one soaked in water to cool him off (appears to have been heat related).

Maybe two or three minutes later a security guard shows up (I had stepped out front by this time to keep my eyes open for the Alpha) and I quietly tell him where to go. He comes out front to watch for the Alpha and I alternate between helping inside and watching out front (BW, TH, and the store's cast had the scene under control). When the Alpha got there (no more than five minutes after the incident) get there the security CM waves them over and I step inside and clear the path for them. After the Alpha has taken over and was told of what happened and the CM's condition by M we move on.

After that we head towards Toy Story and had enough FastPasses for three of us to ride. BW, M, and I opt out. BW goes to see if he can find a CM he needed to find for the Bubble Ladies while M and I go to Guest Relations to turn in our compliments and all. We compliment the Tower CM and the manager and M compliments the manager at Tatooine Traders for his help (that's how I found out about that) and I tell the CM about how I was proud of the shop's cast at their response to the situation. He also gets M's reservation info so he can call up her personal info so she can be informed on how the CM is doing (she wants to know).

We meet up with a local friend of M's, get an early dinner, and ride Tower one more time before we have to head over to Fantasmic!. M's local friend's husband and Little Wallaby also join us for Fantasmic!. After enjoying the show we head down to GR again to see if we can find out about the Tatooine Traders CM's condition.

We wind up talking to the same GR CM as earlier and during our conversation I quietly mention how if we had been in the MK I would have gone to my area and gotten a No Strings Attached for M to get new socks (I already mentioned I was a CM over there). I mention just as part of the conversatin, not trying to get anything from it.

To be continued...

Continued...

Well, the wonderful GR CM grabs his NSA book and him and I head over to the shop just up the street (M was thankfully busy and distracted taking pictures of the decor and I told BW to keep her there, we'd be right back). We find a good pack of socks with two pairs, one with Mickey on them and one with Minnie. We head back and show BW and he asks the GR CM if he would like to give them to M and he said sure. He does so and M is again so happy she cries. He takes us back to the VIP lounge so M can sit down to put on her new socks and gives us all drinks.

Later on M figures out I was the one responsible for getting her new socks and thanked me for them. Hey, I figured she lost a good pair going way above and beyond as a guest and deserved a new pair from Disney. IMO she deserves a lot more too.

All in all a very wonderful, magical day. While the CM getting injured at Tatooine Traders wasn't very magical I'm glad M was there and could help him until the Alpha Unit arrived. We had wonderful CMs going above and beyond to make our day even more special. BW got a wonderful shot on his camera of M hugging the Sunset manager and is going to send it in to Guest Communications. He (and all of us today) would love to see it used on one of the fliers that get posted backstage that show cast living the BASICS and going beyond them as it is a perfect illustration of that.

Today was proof of why I work at Disney. The wonderful magic we CMs can perform, even with simple things like backdooring someone onto an attraction or getting them a new pair of socks.

Wow, what a day! It was wonderful that you all were there to help out that CM. Hopefully he is ok.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

AWESOME!!!

I hate to hear of anyone getting hurt, but what happened after that makes a sad story just a little bit less sad. Let us know how the CM is!

Wow, your group must drip good karma! :)
And I guess it never hurts to have an extra pair of (clean, new) socks in case someone needs a bandage or compress....I always have a flashlight and mouthguard for CPR on me,though. One time I saw CPR being given to a poor soul on Harbor Blvd, right at the entrance to DLR property.

Me told me she has a flashlight on her keys but she didn't want to carry her keys around the parks so didn't bring them.

I think the most Magical thing about this entire story is a guest taking time out to aid that injured CM. Most people would simply just stand and stare or just walk away. Thank goodness M is a nurse! This is great example of how karma works in the world. Kinda like that one insurance commercial where people watch other do a good deed and they themselves pass it on. Thanks to M for "Paying it Forward".

Let's hope that CM recovers quickly.

WOW - I'm so glad the day turned out as well as it did!

The former ER nurse in me is cheering for the socks use! (I trained for trauma certification in Miami, where we always told our frequent flyers about a clean tube sock being great first aid for a GSW, it was occasionally the only English some of them knew, sigh...) BTW, I always have a pair of gloves and a mouth guard, along with what my family calls the world's most extensive aid kit that fits in a fanny pack, LOL! And yep, half an ambulance in the car!

And Shorty, I know exactly which socks you got her - I own 4 pairs each myself! I always get there and get cold feet in the winter, LOL!

I think that days like that are exactly what Disney is all about: The camaraderie, teamwork and pitching in that each of you did is above and beyond! Had I seen it, I'd have left compliments for all of you, as well!

I hope the Tattooine Traders CM is OK!

I'm so proud of all of you!

Wow! What a day you had. Wonderful coincidence that you all were walking by when the CM fell. Hopefully he is recovering well. Sounds like everyone did a great job of handling the situation and keeping things under control.

It was nice that M got to cry with happiness twice in one day :) and that you were all recipients of a little magic yourselves. How generous of you to pass compliments for the CMs on to GR, too.

That truly sounds like a magical day for all of you. What a team!! :yourock:

Hehe, for some reason I just had a flash of you using an electrical cord to defibrillate, just like they did for the dog in There's Something About Mary! :p:
Didn't you just love that scene? ;)
