I'm not sure who is being stupid here -- maybe it's me -- but there's a heap of rampant dumb somewhere nearby.

Today I went to the big "5-Year Celebration Breakfast" [Part One] ... on the clock, no less. All the usual earbanging. Al Weiss spoke (well) on his early years with the Company, saw some nice new trailers for The Incredibles and Chicken Little, pigged out on free food. Managed not to actually throw up when the "Manager of Synergy" spoke.

Most of all I enjoyed the part where we were on the bus from Mill Vill back to the parking lot and the Big New Fancy Security Gate at the exit of Epcot broke down repeatedly and that little trip took 45 minutes.

According to the Cast Portal, cast recognition programs like the 5-year service pin exist to let cast members know just how important they are to the Company. That message came through loud and clear:

I got my 5-year service pin today. About time, seeing as my anniversary date was last January. I've been bugging my homeroom manager about it since March, he kept promising to get me one or give me his, but didn't. Ran into my area manager last week, bugged him. He promised to bring it to the breakfast, he forgot it. When I went to his office this afternoon, he was on the phone, but pointed at a bookcase where I found it. He didn't bother to hang up, just shook my hand and waved as I stuck it on my nametag and walked out.

Oh yeah. I know just how important my five years of service are to the Company.... <sigh>

yeah I got my 1 year pin when I went to the team center and bought it... after many calls to the extention for the lady who orders the pins (provided by my manager when I mentioned it was 3 months late.

then when I went in to put in my 2 weeks I got my first ever card from cynthia congratulating me on getting a guest compliment! (mind you it said specifically for my 7th guest compliment of the quarter)

What's a guest compliment?
A Guest Compliment is a written statement detailing a CM's outstanding help, friendliness, performance or other kindness while encountering a guest in the parks. Guests usually go to City Hall to write & submit these forms. Some are snailed to the parks, some phoned, & some are faxed. Think a Guest may even leave a Guest Compliment at the hotel to be delivered to City Hall. Guest Compliments then go to your dept. supervisor, manager & maybe a lead or two. Eventually the Guest Compliment filters down to the CM. Guest Compliments are then supposed to be posted in a visible place within your dept. These are also placed in our wonderful & very updated Disney CM folio.

CMs live for Guest Compliments as they may outweigh lateness & poor attendance. HA!

Aha, well if I had known that I would have complimented a couple really nice Cms; but how can you compliment them if you don't know their whole name? (ie just thier first name on their name tag)

You're only supposed to use the first name. They also ask for a place and approximate time on the compliment form so they can figure out who it is. They're usually pretty good about it. I've heard that City Hall throws compliments/concerns if they're is a last name cause they assume the person knows you and is trying to help/hurt you. Does anyone know if that's true?

Lady, think you are correct. Knew 3 ODV CMs who were given valid compliments using last names. GCs were turned in @ City Hall but never arrived in ODV dept. City Hall claimed none were turned in for these CMs on said date. Sometimes a guest might not remember the CM's location they are complimenting, thus the guest can describe the CM's costume inplace of location.
