Re: SGs and the writing on the wall
I noticed today in the TSM line some kids were scratching the paint off of a crayon. While the parent just sits there. I think the source of this is when parents don't care about minor things, it just escalates.

they would have cared if their kids were scratching at them...i just can't stand it when parents let their kids (or anyone for that matter) defaces or destroys the scenery at the parks  it's bad enough that time does it on its ownkurtisnelson wrote:I noticed today in the TSM line some kids were scratching the paint off of a crayon. Re: SGs and the writing on the wall
I'm sory but YES you can ALWAYS blame the parents. if the parents did their job and taught their kids right from wrong and punished them when they did wrong, then the kids would grow up knowing better. It is NOT the schools, police dept, church, ect job to teach kids. and your wrong not all kids "will do it anyway" If raised properly they will wait. its that "They will do it anyway so lets make it seem ok by giving them condoms and birth control" attitude that has 12-13 year old girls preg and 8-9 year olds out shooting people.GaTechGal wrote:You don't think that shows like Gossip Girl and others of it's ilk make teenage sex so cool that kids IGNORE thier parents warnings and advice? And don't schools tell us that kids are going to do it anyway which is why condoms are available from the school nurse? And how do you know that said teenager wasn't using birth control taught them in school and it failed? Don't think you can ALWAYS blame the parents.
If the parents would teach them from day one the basics like manors, respect, right from wrong, honesty. then they could grow up and display those to the world. I was raised by the belt on my butt as my son will be raised. I know it is wrong to do certain things and so I don't do them.
It's simple.... Spank their ass and they will learn respect.
Help control A.D.D., Spank a kids ass.

ACK!
I certainly didn't mean my views on Discipline to turn into an I'm right, you're wrong fight, this IS a subject with shades of gray, something I hoped to convey in my last post. There will always be exceptions to any generalization.
I'm thinking of my high school friend who had such an unhappy, hostile and regimented home environment that she was looking for an escape and found it with guys at an early age. There will always be kids who have to learn everything the hard way, despite being given all of the guidance in the world.
I do think the parents on this board would be the type to do everything they could to prevent their kids from running amok, after all, our board is based on
observing and documenting Bad/Stupid behavior of a large population. ;)

I'm not ashamed to admit that I listen to Dr. Laura Schlesinger nearly everyday and often agree with her. Read her blog on "shame". It's what should (or used to) prevent people from doing wrong things. People have no shame
anymore.

Re: SGs and the writing on the wall
A letter to Dr. Laura.
Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:
When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?
Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.
Your devoted fan,
Jim

Did you every see the "West Wing" episode where a "radio talk show" hostess that was part of a moral majority contingent meeting with the president was given a very similar dressing down by Jeb Bartlett?

Re: SGs and the writing on the wall
I am REALLY sorry I brought this up. Dr. Laura is an advocate for innocent children and intact families. And I didn't say I agree with everything she says, just some of it. I was only trying to make a point that there doesn't seem to be any shame in what some people do, such as writing the F word on a bathroom wall. If there were, maybe they would think twice.

Don't be. Everyone has some thoughts and ideas that don't always agree with everyone else's. Dr. Laura happens to be on the national stage which means she's a bigger target. She even gets trashed in Sailing Anarchy for some of her racing antics. I believe she now races a Flying Tiger 10 out of Santa Barbara.Ms. Matterhorn wrote:I am REALLY sorry I brought this up.
