Boy I haven't been able to get over here for awhile and we're STILL stuck on Maynard?!
(BTW, hi Wheelieman, Aurora and all the other regulars, ltns - finally got the DSL hooked up and working tonight :D )
Those of you who would presume to lecture the cast members about how they should feel about their co-workers need to get over yourselves. If someone at work annoys you, they annoy you and that's all there is to it. It's not to say that we presume we were doing a better job or a worse job than Maynard-darling-bubby-sweetheart. Go back and look what I wrote about the PROFESSIONAL entertainers getting laid off and fired. My husband used to work in entertainment himself and after nearly 20 years of service (along with all the injuries that go with entertainment), they cut his hours way back because they didn't want to pay the top people benefits anymore. Bingo - he goes to Casual status, and then they don't have to pay him to audition, and oh yeah, if they call him in for a special event, they pay minimum. Any wonder he said buh-bye to Disney? So Disney cheaps out on the professionals and tells people in Theme Park that TP c.m.'s aren't there to entertain the guests (use the standard spiel, etc.) yet people like Maynard get away with pretending to be entertainers. Rather disingenuous of management, don't you think?
You know, I'd like to invite those of you who think you can do a better job of being an attractions or merchandise (or whatever) host/hostess than the current people to go in, get a job and then work there for ten years or more and see how you feel about people presuming to tell you about your job and how you should feel about your co-workers after several years of (hard) service.

Before I start this, I'll say that Maynard's sister works in Stores with me and I LOVE her. She's not as quirky as he is.
Okay, my most memorable experience concerning Maynard came when a teenage girl got injured over in Critter. She was messing around with one of the boys in her party. He ran up behind her and jumped on her back. She had been bending over at the time and she went down, straight on her head -- knocked out cold! :throw:
One of the other teens went over to Pooh Corner to get an adult from their party. When this adult arrived, the paramedics were already on scene. The girl had awaken by then and the paramedics were inquiring as to the whereabouts of her parents so they could transport her to the hospital.
This adult told me that the girl's parents were over in the Fantasmic area. They were visiting Maynard and all I had to do was call Maynard on "his radio" and then he could send them over to us.
I was training a brand new Cast Member that night and he innocently asked, "Who's Maynard?" You would have thought that this poor kid had asked who's Elvis! The Guest told him that EVERYBODY knew Maynard and he better learn that early if he wanted to make it at Disneyland.
I had the nurse on scene call over to the Fantasmic Lead and see if they could find Maynard and pass the message along. Then I turned to the lady and told her while a lot of Guests may spend their days at Disneyland searching out and following around Maynard, believe it or not, everybody does not know Maynard. I excused the new kid and asked him to wait for me at the break table behind the Splash Gate.
The parents showed up, but not because the entire Park stopped what they were doing and looked for Maynard. It was because the boy who caused the injury ran over to Fantasmic and found them on his own.
The girl was transported to the hospital and ended up being fine. Her parents final remarks before following the stretcher back stage? To one of the adults in the party, "Go find Maynard and tell him that we're sorry we couldn't visit but we're stuck going to the hospital."
None of this is Maynard's fault, I know that. This is just the attitude of the Guests toward him. It really bothered me that they cared more about visiting this person than worrying about their own daughter!
