FelineFan: To be honest, I tend to misplace the paperwork as soon as they give it to me. I'm not even sure it was a nurse (I've never seen her before), it may have been the elusive University Physician.

One of the nurses goes to my church and I know her casually outside the clinic. I might talk to her the next time I see her and find out what the next step should be.

You could state your concern to her (or ask how to get a copy of your record for your current physician).

I'm still not sure why no test was done....did you fast and then return and nobody would perform the test?

Let the experts step in here.

GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GO DIG UP THE RECORDS NOW.
I have to fight the urge to empty pockets and pocketbooks then trash everything in sight. I have many coupons worth a lot of money that is gone.

You need to make them aware of the fact that you slipped through the cracks as next time someone may end up sick or dead. It is known by professionals that low sugars is a problem that needs investigating. I get them from overwork, stress, and food allergies as well as not eating.

Fight the bad habits because someday you are going to need them records or receipts.

I uesd to be very hypoglycemic but cooking for mom and having celiac and special diet means no more cakes, pies, cookies, bon bons, bagels, bread, cheesecake, eggs, puddings, ice cream usually, croutons, soups and more. Wow that is a lot of carbs that I have eliminated which means I am more balanced.

Just do not worry as you are young and it is early. Diet and excercise will reduce the damage and decay of the pancreas thus giving you even more years to live without drugs. You will be fine. Once you learn portions and how many carbs are in food it is easy. Just remember to say no even if you can eat more food or are offered to much food. Mom is allowed 2 flour tortillas and that is it even if the restaurant gives her 12 tortillas. All you can eat does not mean scarfing down a loaf of bread or 3 baked potatos. I have food allergies so I have to limit myself to one single cheeseburger even if I want two.

Chin up and you can do this
hugs
Laurie

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

I was told when I made the appointment to fast. So I fasted before I even saw her. I think (if I remember correctly) that I even asked about or mentioned the test to her and was told it wasn't necessary, but I'm not entirely sure that I am remembering that correctly. I only know that I was told to fast when I called to make the appointment, then showed up and no test of any kind was performed.

That is strange, that whoever made your appointment seemed to think it would be helpful to have you ready to be tested, then no test was done even after you were evaluated....no wonder you are frustrated!
Get your records, it will help you state your concern more effectively.

It's officially prediabetes. At this point I am going to attempt to control it with diet and exercise. I just have to test once a day- in the morning, so that is a relief.

Glad it has not progressed, TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF!
I don't want to scare you, but even just taking pills SUCKS, I'm on ACTOS and it has caused a large amount of weght gain and water retention
My Dr. is having me cut back on it, then we'll see if that works, if not, he'll have to switch meds which would involve injecting myself with Byetta or insulin. :(

You are far away from pills and with a good cleansing and then diet and execise will be fine. First to get rid of toxins and to get you on eating more often and less food. Like mom has her big breakfast full of carbs then small noon snack then dinner which is not that heavy on carbs then midnight snack. You may have to eat 6 times a day but in the long run that is easier on your body.

I saw the dietician who is also a CDE. She gave me a "prescription" for my diet. 30 carbs for breakfast, 45 for lunch and dinner, and I can have a 30 carb snack at night if I want. She also gave me a set number of protein and fat per meal (for weight loss), but since I am doing WW, she said it's fine if I just count points instead of worrying about the fat and protein component. I am supposed to go back to her once I lose some weight because then she will up it a little.

I am not supposed to eat snacks (or at least, no carbs between meals). She said they used to have people eat snacks (6 meals a day) figuring that it would keep the blood sugar more constant. She told us that is no longer standard wisdom for prediabetes or type 2 because the sugar doesn't get a chance to return to normal and instead stays elevated. If my blood sugar dips like it's tended to do, I'm supposed to eat 15 grams of carbs, then wait 15 minutes to see if it helps.
