Hurricane Frances

Hey everybody. It feels just like yesterday that we were hit by a very powerful hurricane Charley. Now we are faced with another hurricane less than a month later. If you live by the coast please evacuate. I rode out hurricane Andrew back in 1992, and this storm will be just as powerful if the current projections hold. The current radius of this hurricane is 185 miles, hurricane Charley was only 125 miles. Current projections are 138 mph sustained winds when it makes landfall. Currently this is probably going to be near Melborne. This storm is only projected to go from Melborne to Ocala in 24 hours, which is a slow moving storm. As of the time of this posting no Tropical Storm or Hurricane watches or warnings have been posted in Florida

The strange thing is in my track talk this morning my manager said not to start a panic from the guests. I think many of them are oblivious to what is going on.

UPDATE: According to the latest information from the Disney-MGM Studios Cast Hurricane Information line 407-560-7990 all Disney theme, and water parks will be closed on Sunday in the Central Florida area. Disney's Vero Beach resort, and the Ft. Wilderness Campgrounds have been evacuated withe the eye of the storm now expected to make landfall near Vero Beach. Frances will take nearly 18-20 hours to pass. Damaging winds are expected in Orange County for 10-12 hours. Many areas are now under a curfew from 2 pm saturday to 6 am monday.

Yeah, how are you doing? Also on an interesting semi-related topic. The last few days I've talked to a few guests that it was their first time in Disneyland and they're here because of the hurricane. They apparantly (sp?) had a vacation planned for World and changed last minute. I'm guessing the travel companies are working with people that want to do that, I guess the money all goes to the same company, right?

I'm doing fine, although the place is a mess -- again. All Disney parks are open again. Yesterday the Studios, and Animal Kingdom were closed. From what I heard the Studios was closed because they had no power. The hurricane lasted for 2 days because it moved so slow. You could outwalk it as long as you didn't have to stop for any reason. Many areas are still under a mandatory curfew, espically the areas that were evacuated.

lol I love it how Walt put Disney World in Hurricane alley and Disneyland in Earthquake central :roll:

I know what you are talking about. I read somewhere that Walt was looking at locations in Arizona and Florida when he was looking to build WDW. It looks like for better or worse he chose Florida. I guess that he didn't want his two parks that close togher.

Is WDW located in Orange County, Florida, because that would be ironic, however more than likely planned, to have two disney resorts, in their respective Orange Counties, and both having to deal with the challenges of major natural disaters!

Yes, WDW is infact in Orange County FL. Didn't realize this trivia until the hurricanes these last few yrs. Ironic? More like twilight zonish. Still prefer CA. earthquakes - the very few I've been through, & yes I'm an Or. Co. CA. native. At least CA. earthquakes aren't yearly! Glad all you WDW CMs are safe.
