At the local restaurant a couple and their male companion left their herd of kids in the corner booth for over 3 hours while they were in the bar. They did not leave the kids with toys or crayons, nothing. On the table they left an open beer bottle which could put the restaurant in big trouble for serving booze to a minor.

Why were they allowed to have a kidless meal while others had to put up with the brat. I would have written corporate offices or something as that is not safe.

Mr. Syndrome and I have actually seen this happen a couple of times before...once at Denny's, where it didn't surprise me, and once at the Columbia in Celebration. Actually at the Columbia I don't remember if the kids started out in the same booth as the parents or not. I just remember that they chased 'em out into the restaurant, and they used the whole diningroom as their playground. One kid had a toy car and actually climbed in our booth and starting running it around the top of the booth! Then he claimed not to speak English when I said something (wonder if he was related to the Citricos clan), and I responded with some very terse Spanish that ensured he didn't come near us again. Finally the parents sent the kids outside...by themselves...out to downtown Celebration. When Mr. Syndrome and I left, the parents were still inside indulging in sangria with no end in sight and the kids were nowhere to be seen outside. What are parents like that thinking? Or maybe do they WANT the kids to be abducted so they don't have to drag 'em along anymore?!

If I'd seen something like that, and the manager didn't do anything, I'd be calling 911 and Child Protective Services. Parents like that deserve to get thrown in jail (tell general population they're in for child abuse) and have their kids in foster care.

It is just appalling that the adults would do that, but I think it's irresponsible of the restaurant staff to allow it.

Exactly.. let the inmates deal with them. If you don't want to be bothered by children don't have them.. but if it is too late and you have them; don't bring them along with you. Find a sitter for them at home and you go out. But of course they probably didn't want to pay a sitter either. Much rather have other adults in a restaurant deal with them while they sit there and get drunk.

911 should be called when things like this happen.

I know I am breaking into this thread to do so, but as the second founding member of the Marsupial Welcoming Committee, I would like to welcome AngelSong71 and introduce her to everyone here. You see, she and her husband are quite good friends to Little Wallaby (a.k.a. here as T'Kirr) and me... her husband and I went through Traditions together and both into buses. Actually, if I've ever mentioned our housemates, that's them, and they are indescribably wonderful people.

So without further ado, :welcome: to :sgt: from :wombat: and :wallaby: !!!
