Stupid Restaurant Tricks: Kids at Separate Table...

Post by Syndrome » Sat Aug 09, 2008 11:13 am

...in a separate dining room!! We actually experienced that at Citrico's...SG party of adults with 8 kids, none over 12, come in, are brought to a table near us (front diningroom), and get into argument with hostess. Apparently they wanted to leave the kids there and be seated separately in the back diningroom! Worse yet, they actually won out and all of us in the front diningroom had to deal with the little darlings' antics while the adults were far, far away. You can read all the sordid details in my blog at http://celebrationfl.blogspot.com but here are some highlights:

-One kid moves two chairs together and proceeds to use them as parallel bars for a gymnastics routine.

-Toddler runs amock, then falls to the floor where she rolls around for a while like a log.

-Rest of the kids run amock.

-Kids get into a literal food fight.

A couple seated closer to them called a manager over. I couldn't hear the conversation, but I think I can guess what it was about. Sadly the kids weren't reined in; probably easier to give a freebie than to try to get the parents to come control the hellions. This was probably the best edition I've seen of Stupid Guest Tricks: Restauarant Edition since Cell Phone Lady and her racehorse pee and puke conversation (also detailed in the blog).

I'm amazed that management wouldn't require adult supervision of those kids. What is wrong with managers??? They are subjecting all the other guests to this unpleasantness while allowing the parents who are legally responsible for their children to go unpunished and actually rewarded by allowing them to sit apart from their offspring.
It is just so frustrating to hear about behavior like that.

I would think that a good "out" for the manager would have been safety. If one of the kids started to choke, and no adult was present, the restaurant could be responsible!

I was thinking about the safety factor also. Good Lord, if they didnt want to be near their kids why bring them on vacation in the first place. LMAO....Von Trapp Family from Hell. That was a good description. :D:

What I'll probably do is mention something next time I'm there, since we're usually there very early so it's quiet and uncrowded...a good time to have a little chat about our previous experience. I couldn't believe how busy it was that night, and the poor manager was already getting a complaint from the couple who were nearer the psycho table. It was an off-night at Citricos overall; the service, which is usually impeccable, was just okay (had to ask twice for refills, long absence of server, Mr. Syndrome got the wrong entree). We didn't complain, but they gave the Mr. a free glass of wine anyway to make up for the entree.

I think there should be e trap door for these restaurants. If the parents pull this crap, the door opens and drops everyone off at a nearby Chuckie Cheese.

I would DEFINITLY have gotten up and first said something to the kids, and if that didn't fix it (usually does for a while, but not forever), I would have gone and found the parents. There is just NO excuse for that. Children should be seated in the same dining room as the parents. If you don't want to eat with your kids (and with kids like that I could understand) then park their fannies at one of the lovely kids' clubs that Disney offers. They will feed your kids there and no one else will have to be subjected to them. YEESH.

I am confused on why the managers would allow this as well. Disney is very keen on guest getting what they want but is it worth for the one family to get what they want while many other families are disgruntled?

Disney does offer many options for families to be able to go out without their children but then again if you are on a family vacation you should stay with your family and take care of your own children!!

The kids were speaking in Spanish the whole time, so I wondered if they would have pulled the "No speak English" routine if someone had said something. If they would have run over to our table, they would have learned that I can say some not-so-nice things in Spanish to people who pull that with me.
