No, that's obsession. There is a difference. Dedication comes with a (tiny) paycheck.
Lol. You are totally right. He is very obsessed :D

I was wondering that, too. What is a "Mystery Guest"?

A Mystery Guest comes into the park as a normal guest. They evaluate one location (Store, dinning, attraction etc). Basically they are there to see if we are doing our jobs correctly. Disney brigns them in to make sure we are providing the highest quality service to all of our guests.

Oh Smiley was at Pooh last night. The lead was grouping and he placed him at the Load 1 beehicle. (I was at Load 2). Then the lead sent the load 1 CM (male) down to Unload to replace the female CM down there. The first CM came back after Smiley got off. Smiley wasn't smiling after the Lead had made sure that niether myself or the other female CM had to deal with Smiley.

Well, like I said, Smiley usually wears a jean jacket with tan sleeves, jeans, simple shirt..no hat...I think he has red hair.
Please don't bash me, because I think he has a mental handicap of some sort...but you can tell this by his face. Unfortunately, his troll-like smile is usually frozen in place...and that evil grin gets even bigger when he's near a female CM ::shudders::

I'm trying to think of what I can compare him to....but know this--he's ALWAYS by himself. I have only seen him during the day ONCE during my 1 1/2 years there.

"What is a Mystery Guest?"

Post by Main Streeter » Wed Aug 25, 2004 6:26 am

Mystery Guests/Mystery Shoppers, & there are many more than we can imagine, are not hired by Disney Land. They are from an independent company Disney contracts with. Am I correct about this? Heard this before I hired in in 2000. Mystery Guests/Mystery Shoppers check for theft in stores & ODV. They often are accompanied by one or 2 children, may have a stroller, a large balloon & a few full Disney bags. Some are also mentally/physically challanged, or appear to be. CMs are extremely scrutinized as to how we respond & treat those who may seemingly need more help & friendliness then the average Guests.

You are correct main streeter about them being contracted by Disneyland. Both my locations tend to score 100% pretty regulary. We got docked pretty bad at the Haunted Mansion one of the comments was "They didn't smile" we were all WTF?! I just was on a 100% Mystery Guest score for Pooh. Have yet to see the comments just was informed by my lead. That means I do something right :)

Makes me wonder -- can you spot them? Do they take notes or anything?

When I was last at WDW, I carried a PassPorter guidebook and took lots of notes for our family scrapbook and online trip report. We received fabulous treatment everywhere we went. I've always thought it was just the usual Disney magic, but now I'm wondering... Would someone taking notes in the park make you think they were possibly evaluating you?

Actually, no ... Mystery Guests don't carry notebooks or visably take notes ... they're supposed to be very incognito. After awhile, I came to be able to tell who the Mystery Guests were. They usually start off by asking three varied questions and then purchase something, etc. Alot of us can tell who the MGs are just by their actions ... but it's still so hard to judge! Each shop gets evaluated every month.

Now that is seriously a job I wouldn't mind having ... I wonder how the pay is and where you go to apply??
