Well...my favorite was the poor woman I met in the queue. She was about in front of the emporium corner and as I'm walking the line trying to let guests know what's going on and assure them that we're getting the line moving as fast as possible, she asks very quietly, "Mam...am I in the right place for the buttons? It's my first time." She was so polite and it was so ridiculous that I felt really awful - she was waiting in an over-an-hour line to get a button. I went inside, got one, wrote "1st Earthquake too!" on it, and brought it out to her. It was the most therapeutic thing ever, knowing that despite what seemed like the sky falling on us, that there were still just nice ladies who wanted 1st visit buttons.

Now...my favorite SG was the lady who refused to go get in line. She kept standing about 4 feet behind me as I walked the line and every once in a while she would interrupt me to ask me a question that there is NO WAY I could EVER know the answer to.

SG: "HEY! [note, not 'excuse me' but 'HEY', then she'd tug on my sleeve till I turned around.] HEY! How many engineers you have? How many here in Disneyland right now?"
GJ: "I'm not sure mam, we have quite a few."
SG: "NO! You tell me how many!"
GJ: "I have no idea mam."
SG "OK, when rides open?"
GJ: "They're all going to open at different times depending on when the engineers OK them."
SG: "How many engineers here?"
GJ: "I don't know mam. I can tell you we have 4 attractions open right now.

etc. etc., then she'd go back behind me and wait 5 more minutes. After the obligatory 5 minutes, she'd come back, tug on my shirt again, and ask me "how long till matterhorn?". After about the 3rd interruption she started asking me for a comp ticket. I explained that I didn't have them and you have to wait in the line. She didn't like that and waited behind me for another 5 minutes. Then my lead brought me out a handful of 1 day comps so I could get the line down to just people who needed a cash transaction or a more complicated solution. Sure enough, there's the tug on my sleeve.

SG: "You give me!"
GJ: "You HAVE to get in line, mam."
SG: "I was here 40 minutes!"
GJ: "Yes I know, but not in line like everyone else."
SG: "I get in front of him, that where I should be"
GJ: "No, you go to the end of the line. You chose to stand behind me and interrupt for 40 minutes. I am only helping those who have waited their turn in line. If you want a comp ticket, you need to go to the END of the line and I'll get you one in about an hour when you get back up here to me.

At that point she took my name, wrote it on her map, and left. I'm waiting to hear if she ever called guest com. I want the complaint - I'm planning to frame it.

Usually DLR would have drug my butt out of there if I was not in line especially during an emergency. A 5.8 earthquake may be the big one or it may later be followed by a 7.9 as well as them 4.0 aftershocks. Old DLR rule was drag them out of the way of CMs.

I've had a couple of those that I wanted. Nothing ever came of them.

Yikes! That sounds as bad as the time our power grid went down and both Soarin' theaters auto e-stopped in the air. NOT A GOOD SITUATION!
When Soarin' E-stops each carriage must be powered down and then back up and jogged back to load. It takes two people and you have to have a member of maintenance and management there. It take like 20 minutes to get all three down. Unfortunately we had no power to jog so we had to wait until maintenance fired up the generators. It was soooo dramatic.

I just got back from housesitting my sister's boss' place over the weekend. They had a large bookcase in their office fall over, spilling books everywhere. They also had glass shelves in a display case of Llandro collectibles break, causing $20,000 worth of Llandro stuff to be lost. If you don't know what Llandro is, it's very expensive ceramic artwork.

I know what it is, it just is a mystery why they would BUY that stuff, when they could buy Disney figures!!!

Try not to be too shocked, but some people aren't into Disney stuff--though I did notice a couple of Disney items there. They're a husband and wife pair of attorneys, specializing in real estate law, so they can afford Llandro, and other stuff.

Wow, that's the worst damage I've heard from this shaker other than the plumbing at the Macy's Store in the Valley.
I was at DCA on Sunday watching The Aladdin Show, and Genie did an earthquake joke- got some nervous laughter from that one! :p:

Well, if they were lawyers...and they figures were insured for more than they were worth.....

I'm SURE the shelves "fell" during the earthquake.

(of course we have all our shelving units anchored, and have museum putty on OUR Disney (and other) figures and plates)

Hmmmmmmm!!

Yes, I looked in where they had them, and the glass shelves fell. I'm sure their homeowners' insurance will cover them, but when I looked at the Llandro site, I don't think they had the figures you can get any old time--I think they went for the limited edition stuff. Granted I don't have a photographic memory, but I don't remember seeing anything on the site that they had. If they did buy limited edition stuff, they may not be able to replace the pieces--and I don't think they'd look as nice glued back together. But, you never know....
