Now to clarify - the vast majority weren't really there to complain about the quake, they were there for refunds and comps, since they knew they'd be losing 3-4 hours waiting for rides to come back up. We DO have a massive amount of comps (I personally printed over 400 yesterday), but the problem is that you can't just hand out the same thing to everyone - it has to be done case by case. For example, you can't give the same thing to a local with a 1 day hopper that you give to someone from Germany on day 2 of a 5 day ticket. You also can't hand them a comp without then escorting them out of the park. So most of the line was just people waiting to get their comp or refund and be walked out by one of the army of area managers we wrangled up. At one point I was told to teach 25 attractions managers the rules of the comps and what we could or couldn't do, then walk them to the KENNELS and have them wait there with a handful of 1dhopper comps so we could send the guests that just wanted a 1 for 1 outside to get it.

That said, we did have a few complainers, and it was hilarious. One lady didn't like that her dream fastpass wasn't going to help her much and wanted me to give her comps AND another fastpass for tomorrow. We also had a family of 15 who wanted comp tickets in exchange for their 15 complimentary CM plastic tickets. One lady kept walking up behind me and interrupting me with guests to ask if I could give her a comp ticket. On the 5th time she asked, I finally lost my patience and said, "Mam, I MIGHT give you a comp ticket, but you're gonna have to get in line like everyone else FIRST. You can't just keep coming up to the front and pulling me aside. Everyone is here for the same reason you are. Go to the BACK of the line and I'll help you in roughly one hour." She wasn't happy with me.

You know, if I were at Disneyland when a quake hit, I think I might just assume it was Walt spinning in his grave and start asking around to see what TDA had decided to do now... :)

My gf called me, people at work were telling her Disneyland was closed, then all rides, all kinds of BS. I'm sure all the attractions were closed for some time while they checked things out, I would expect it. Like its been said the press really blew it out of perportion, and I see they are again talking about the "BIG ONE". We are heading to LA for a bowling tourny Friday morning and will be at DL Sunday afternoon for the week, this isnt going to stop us, we are born and raised in California.

Its kinda funny, I've been trying to convince the GF to move to Florida for over two years, just the other night she says "not with all those hurricains" but then theres and earthquake and she just shrugs it off, no biggie, happens all the time. All we saw on the news was some minor damage and an older building that had some major damage.

Sounds to me like the DL CM's lived up to the Disney standard and took care of business, great job everyone. I look forward to being there next week. Hell, I cant wait to get there.

I'd have asked if there was a launch from one of the underground missile silo's.

Question for attractions CM's????

When this hit and everything gets shut down, do all or some of the attractions E-stop (automatically) (or do you or someone else E-stop them) and then do an evac of all riders currently riding or do you stop loading and allow riders already on the attraction (ride type) to cycle through to unload and then shut down once everyone is off?

I know for people who have not lived in California for years an earthquake can be extreamly frightening, you always hear people saying they wouldnt live here due to all those earthquakes but DL also has a lot of locals who have been through much worse so unless shits falling on our heads we generally are not too effected right away. Its almost a delayed reaction for those of us who have experienced earthquakes for many years if not all our lives.

Thanks
Steve

My question I wanted to ask those that were at Plaza Inn at the time of the quake- Did the Cobb Salad toss itself?

I'll have to find out when I find people that were there at the time.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that we're happy everyone's okay down there!

Funny side note (in light of the conversation that's been happening on these boards): my roommate and I were watching them make a big deal about this quake on TV and we were both going "What happened? Californians didn't used to freak out about this stuff!" Turns out the *real* californians weren't freaking out...it's all the outsiders.

Alternate point of view on guests complaining after something that's not Disney's fault: It's just like if someone's choking and you ask them if they're okay, if they can say "no" then they're alright! Same deal with guests after an emergency. It's good for them to bitch and moan, that way you know they're just fine! ;)

Hrm. Ya know, it's funny. I've lived out here from 7/00-7/02, and then from 8/07 to now.

Indiana, my home state, had two earthquakes during those time periods.

Yesterday was the first one I've felt out here.

After living through tornado season, flooding, lightning storms, blizzards, ice storms....all I gotta say is....

That's it?

But seriously....I'm incredibly grateful that I didn't have an open or a mid-shift yesterday. I always would kid around that my first earthquake would happen either in the caverns or as my sub was passing under the monorail beam.

Heck, I remember spending two years in Japan. We seemed to have an earthquake almost once a week or so. After the first two or three, it got so you didn't even notice them. Just kept doing what you were doing!

People will get hurt worse by a panic reaction, then just calmly doing what they need to to be safe.

[font="Palatino Linotype"]i was at home, blissfully looking at stuff on my pc when the quake gave a quick jolt...hmmmm...an earthquake, i thought (actually i mentioned it to mel, but he doesn't talk much...iguanas don't make good conversationalists)...then it began rolling...i walked calmly to my genie room...i have a room that has thousands of dollars of collectibles in there...so lots of breakable stuff...on shelves...on walls...i was worried...especially when i heard a crash...now let me say i live probably 50 miles from the epicenter of the quake, so for something to come down is really something...thankfully my genie room was in tact...what fell was a small cd rack in my kitchen...all was right with the world...then calls started coming and going...ya have to check with family, ya know...so i was talking with my sis-in-law in AZ...she tells me they're showing disneyland on the news there...HUH??? they're not showing it on the news here (as i flip the t.v. from channel to channel)...what's going on? why do they get to see dl in AZ and not us here in l.a.? something strange...then they show dr. lucy jones in AZ on t.v., but not here...wtf? some other chick on t.v. here...hmmmm...it just so happens elyse and i went through school (from grammar school through high school) with her, so i look forward to earthquakes when we get to see her on t.v...saw her this morning...she looks just like she did in 3rd grade...

glad to hear things went pretty well at dl yesterday and everyone is safe...all i can is that after people left it made the park a much better place for those who stayed...wish i had been there :)
