Uh, actually, Knott's is so far off from being anything like it was when Walter and Cordelia ran it, it's disgusting. Wild West, my foot. Good thing you didn't tell him it used to be free to get into Knott's. That guy wouldn't have liked it anyway. I wonder if he was on something--I mean, just about everybody knows about Knott's as well as Disneyland, though I've seen where both Disneyland and Knott's are said to be "in Los Angeles". Well, maybe in a few thousand years, when movement on the San Andreas Fault pulls L.A. closer to San Francisco, maybe DLR and Knott's WILL be in L.A.! Of course, that's assuming if both still exist by then (my money's on Disneyland sticking around longer--Knott's is a total ghetto on its way out.).

There is a military discount....

Excellent info Patti! I simply can't say enough about how well Disney treats military folk. For a year or so back in `03 (I believe) DLR was giving FREE 3-Day Hoppers to anyone with an active-duty ID (or reservists with recent deployments or a deployment coming up) as well as heavily discounted tickets for friends and family. Additionally, they often invite military personnel to participate in the retreat ceremony (every day at 5 at the flagpole on Main Street -- maybe Patti or another CM can verify that the timing doesn't change).

Also, we've always been able to get WDW tickets from MWR offices too! I don't know if that's all of MWR offices or just some, but we've had no trouble with that. Oh, and I hear Shades of Green (the WDW military hotel) is nice, but it's never sounded appealing to me, so we are usually able to get a military/government discount (if there's no other, better discount available) at real WDW hotels also.

Once again, I just can't say enough about how well Disney takes care of the military. They are too great!

At the Magic Kingdom the Flag Retreat Ceremony happens at 5:00 on the dot every day, rain or shine. One time it was getting ready to rain and the Dapper Dans had shown up with umbrellas but as soon as the down pour started they ran for it and the Main Street Philharmonic never showed at all. They played a recording of the music over the PA while the Magic Kingdom Security Color Guard lowered the flag. Instead of marching down Main Street to Center Street they ducked inside Exposition Hall. There was a veteran of the day and I felt sorry that he didn't receive the full ceremony.

I believe Flag Retreat Ceremony is 4:30 pm at Disneyland....
Kudos to A Wonderful Dream Team Lead and Ernie from the Guard who made this ceremony very special for my FIL and the rest of us. :)

When I was in the Army Reserve my unit did summer camp at Ft. Lewis. Their MP head count was short so I was asked to take some shifts.

The first day I went on at at 4 PM. A few minutes before five my car was sent to the post flag pole to strike the flag for retreat.

We pulled up and the flag was a garrison flag that measured about twenty by forty feet. That thing was HUGE!! It took two of us almost five minutes to fold it properly.
