Very different fallout area from DLMs. Matterhorn wrote:The fireworks at Anaheim Stadium went off on schedule. It's only a few miles from DLR for those of you on the east coast.
Mad Maxx wrote:And right on Ball Rd as well. The other night, a friend and I were driving by the park as pyro was about half way through, so, me being the nerd I am, synced the music up from my iPod to the show and pulled into the Sheraton parking lot that is right across the street from the back stage entrance by TDA. And I got outta my car and got promptly hit in the face by some cardboard bits from the shells. Yeah... None of the crater in the roof making stuff that falls all over backstage, but still some of the lighter stuff goes across the street and such.
Exactly why DL cancels the fireworks in high winds, the cinders and embers *could* fly further out, starting fires. It is true that they have had fires from the fireworks which is why they put the high wind cancellation policy into effect.
What gets me is when I have heard people say "Disney ruined my vacation cause there were no fireworks!" I HAVE heard this comment from SGs. Idiots. How would they like it if Disney set off the fireworks anyway and it was THEIR house that burned to the ground? Dumbasses!
When we were there last Christmas, the fireworks got cancelled multiple nights. There were lots of SGs lined up at City Hall trying to get their money back. The line I saw was back to the Emporium and growing...I did hear an SG tell a CM "My Christmas is ruined, because you didn't do fireworks!"
Oh really! There is not enough other entertainment and attractions to make your trip a good one. Like I said, Dumbasses!

My friends and I went to a Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom a few years ago. It was a rather windy night, with the wind coming from the north, but they started the show anyway.
I don't know if the decision was made before or during the show, but quite a lot of pyro wasn't fired during the show, including most of the Fantasyland building shots. There were gaps of time where nothing at all was happening.
We had soot raining down on us a few times, and then out of nowhere this large chunk of cardboard pyro shell falls down and bonks my friend on the thigh. It was a pretty good-sized piece, too, at least 6"x8". (My guess is that it was from one of the final, large "chandelier" bursts near the end).
After taking a few photos we were going to drop it in a trash can, but decided to give the CMs at City Hall something to talk about, so we turned it in as Lost & Found, saying "We think your pyro crew lost this..." ;)
(Yeah, we were in an odd mood that night)

Re: 4th of July Fireworks SGTs
Having worked Wishes, I hate it when shells fall into a guest area. It is rare, but shells can fall unexploded. Once they are launched they are live and can go off at anytime. I have seen one fall unexploded once, and it was rather intense.
If fireworks crew had their way, none of Fantasyland would be open. As it is, one of our brilliant managers (I actually do like the guy except for this) got the idea that we could keep Snow White open during the fireworks even though it is in the fall out zone. We have to station 2 or 3 CMs along the queue to make sure that guests do not go into the area, and there is still a chance they will duck under the rope- very dangerous! It's Snow White for crying out loud! It's not a big deal to keep it closed during the fireworks, more people are upset about not getting to go through the castle or go to Tinkerbell's Treasures than being unable to ride Snow White.

In your esteemed opinions, is there a decent place in the parks for a clausterphobic non-stupid guest to view the 4th of July fireworks? I am planning on seeing them next year (Mk on the 3rd, Epcot on the 4th), but I do get a tad bit paniced it I am in a huge mob o people and can't move. Or am I just dreaming and need to watch it from the Poly beach?

You can see the MK fireworks anywhere in the park but the very best view is from Main Street which will be packed to the gills. Most of the park probably won't be very crowded.Chucky wrote:In your esteemed opinions, is there a decent place in the parks for a clausterphobic non-stupid guest to view the 4th of July fireworks? Unless you're staying there you will probably have a hard time getting to the Poly. The parking lots are restricted to Poly guests and I wouldn't be surprised if they check resort ID on the monorail. I'd think the beach would be pretty crowded also. The Poly does have a unique view for the fireworks though as it is outside the circle of fireworks (which are launched from numerous sites around the Magic Kingdom including an island and some barges in the Lagoon).
Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We almost always stay at the Poly, and I can't recall them checking our I.D.'s, a lot of people come to the Poly to eat, and watch the fireworks and the barge show, so I think you would be just fine going there!

Try the contemporary? You can get off the monorail at the Magic Kingdom and walk on over, take the elevator up as far as you can and then watch from the stairwell. Each level has a psuedo balcony in the stairwell that is great to watch from.

Re: 4th of July Fireworks SGTs
You guys were mentioning a few good places to see the fireworks at WDW. I did see them from the California Grill. They have an outdoor area with a viewing area. Also another good place is Narcoossee's. We had a good eating area and we could see and hear the music to the show. It was really neat. I hope to see it from Main Street when I return for September's vacation. :)
