Deck the car?
Re: Deck the car?
Well, when I was a kid, we lived about a 15-20 minute drive from Disneyland, but we did go out of state during the summer and see the national parks, visit relatives, etc.. I can't remember where exactly I saw this, but on the subject of license plate bingo, I once saw a green sportscar, driven by a well-dressed elderly man, with--get this--Principality of Monaco license plates! I always wondered if that was Prince Rainier himself. Now I remember--driving with friends from the San Gabriel Valley to the San Bernardino Mountains for a college retreat, so that would've been in the fall of either 1999, 2000, or 2001. Prince Rainier died in 2005.

Thank you all for your warm welcomes!!
Love the decorated van!! Yes like that!!
And, Hobie… it’s actually “Leave your tuques at home. Eh?”
We’ll be ready for the warmth, humidity and whatever else comes our way. :D:
I see us as a fun family, we love each other and always have fun no matter what we do. We are not pre-planning for perks, or special treatment from CM’s on this site.
(Even though we are spending a lot of money and deserve it dangit!!)
Like with everything else in life there are warnings and rules, and even though at times we may not understand them, they are generally in place for a reason. And we respect that. Like the warning on the hair dryer that says “Do not use in shower” … now, you know someone ACTUALLY did that or they wouldn’t have put it there! :notallthe
But on a serious note I would love to bump into one, some or all of you, you guys sound like very devoted CM’s and love what you do and that in itself tells me that I will have an awesome time. And if given the opportunity to thank you guys in person for all your hard work I would. We’ll see about putting a “SGT” somewhere and see if you notice us.

Yes!!! I just discovered smilies - and SO just discovered the kids hidden candy bag so I'm going to get me a sugar rush and run circles around my coffee table
Have a great night everyone!

Actually, besides the fun that’ll go into doing this, the only other benefit we’ll have from putting wall stickers on our van is that we do plan to peel some of them off when we get there and put them on our room window so the kids can easily find our room. ;)Honestly, I don't think it will be that much of an issue. As long as you aren't using your Disneymobile as a way to obtain special privileges.

I wouldn't crash this truck. It's a beer truck.GrUvGrL wrote:And, Hobie… it’s actually “Leave your tuques at home. Eh?”
Well take off, eh.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Although I've lived in Boston, Montreal and Los Gatos, I spent my youth in Ottawa, Ontario (great place to raise kids but crappy weather and kind of a boring place). My dad used to drive us down in the early 70's in a Camero but subsequently moved to vans (first a VW microbus and finally the eiptome of small-scale luxury, converted Chevy vans). Although he did the trip to Daytona (for example) in 16-22 hours dependingon how long we'd stop at the outlets, the trips never really felt all that long to us.
The most important things when you've got kids for long distance driving is allowing time to stop for exercise, keeping good snacks available (to resist the McDonalds urges) and drug 'em up but good. I half joke as the worst thing for kids is the inevitable car sickness that comes with back-seating. Gravol/whatevertheamericanversionis works great and as a bonus it makes the kids sleepy and sleep really helps pass the time.
Kids are really lucky these days with DS's, PSPs and DVD players but it's nice that my young ones know all of the states between Ontario and Florida and that comes from engaging them in the drive (pointing out places of interest, etc.). I pretty much have the whole route memorized (that is, I recognize practically every single mile of it).
Americans from south of the mason-dixie won't appreciate this, but driving from Canada in the dead of winter and literally watching the seasons change as you drive is pretty impressive. It's also a terrific scientific lesson for the kids, showing that seasons don't really exist, they're just artificial borders on a world of grey scales.

The American version of Gravol, which I believe is an anti-motion sickness drug, is Dramamine.
