Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Looks like they might finally be doing something about the bridge. I've been hearing things through the grapevine lately about it closing for repairs and today I saw some things that pretty much confirmed it. I came up on the west side of Main Street heading over to the Firehouse and I noticed that the sign that tells people what parking spots have to be clear by 7:00 for parade staging has been changed to 2:00 and there were more lines painted on on the ground that look like they'll be used for staging purposes.Shorty82 wrote:Is that what that scaffolding doing? I was wondering what they were doing that took so long, I thought they were just doing maintenance on the bridge.
The 3:00 parade is going to be interesting until they get the bridge reopened. From what I've heard they are going to run it up Main Street, around the Hub, and back down Main Street. That's the only way they can run it with that bridge closed as none of the other paths will handle the floats. Thing is they are going to have to take out a number of floats as they simply won't make the turn to go all the way around the Hub. Unless they shorten the parade to all of a minute or two in length (like that'll happen) the floats will have to pass each other going opposite ways so they'll have to run a lot closer to the edge of the road than normal and people won't get a good view of the floats on the opposite side.
This is all hearsay and me putting 2 and 2 together and hopefully getting 4. I have a feeling we'll find out tomorrow what's going on with the bridge.

Re: Bad Show Question...
Shorty, to fill in a few gaps from what you wrote, this is the info I've heard:
The Liberty Square bridge will be replaced between August 15th and 29th. During that time, Spectromagic will not run at all (it's too long to run in any kind of modified form). The afternoon parade will run twice each day, at 3PM and 7PM. It will run a modified route just like you said: from Town Square, up Main Street, around the Hub, back down Main Street and end where it began.
Only one float will be taken out, the generic "mirror castle" float that gets reused in just about every parade the MK has run since 1996. With that float removed, the remaining floats can all fit around the Hub, spaced closely together. So as the last float is pulling into the Hub, the first float is just completing its circle and pulls out of the Hub and back down Main Street.
Apparently Disneyland did this a couple years ago when they built the giant swimming pool on Main Street for the Olympic stars to swim in. The parade entered from Fantasyland, ran around the Hub and back out to Fantasyland. But there they had the issue of the floats having to make a sharp right-turn pulling into the Hub, a turn they don't normally have to do. At the MK, the floats won't be making any turns that they don't essentially do already.
What's going to be interesting will be how the PAC CMs keep control of the crowds, and whether they'll inform the crowds of the modified route. (Hopefully they'll come out with new park maps for those two weeks showing the new route) I can see many Guests getting up from the curb and walking out into the street after the parade has passed, and the PAC CMs trying to keep people off the streets so that the parade can come back through again. While the PAC CMs usually stationed in LibSq/Fronteirland might normally get out of parade duty, they just might end up being needed on Main Street for all this "fun".
I forsee some stories being posted here on SGT the end of August...

The middle of August? So why did they already modify the parking sign and what not?
