4th of July Fireworks SGTs
Re: 4th of July Fireworks SGTs
When I started at Knott's, they had a combination fireworks and laser show, forget what they called it, where they had to shut down the Grand Sierra Scenic Railroad and the (now defunct) Walter K Steamboat. But I have seen fireworks at Knott's, while working, but I think in quality Disney has the better show. I think since there's more buildings close in to Knott's, and since Disneyland has kind of a buffer zone, Disney can do more. I don't think Knott's fireworks go as high as Disney's do.
Again, if you think the CF park near you is good, it may have better management. Knott's management is so bad they would scare Nazis.

Theoretically we can have 6 people at the counter at a time. I've never seen us try more than 5. There's simply not enough space. We try to have 5 plus a "super greeter", meaning one person walking outside the hall checking to see if anyone in line just needs directions or a button, to try to get the line down.AlpineDL wrote:I actually tried to trade newbies for their 4th evening Hub GC shifts. Probably a few regret declining now.
Just curious GuestJockey, how many GR folks were staffed in City Hall during that lunacy? Do you have people to the side as well as the counters, a security bouncer, or just fill up the counter space as much as comfortably possible?
What's really bad is that when you have that many people that close to each other at the counter, you end up HAVING to give the same GSR solutions to everyone. You can't give one guy a full day comp and another an "after 4", even though the one was only in the park for an hour and doesn't deserve a whole day, because when you try to offer the after 4, they say "the guy next to me just got a full day!" and you're screwed.

Seder: I think it was the Coaster Drive In. Earlier in the day we tried to eat at the turkey leg place at the front entrance (my father loves turkey legs). There was food out, but nobody there. We went to the pizza stand next to it and asked if somebody was working it and were rudely told that it was closed. I had a couple problems with this:
1.) No reason t obe rude
2.) There was nothing to indicate to guests that it was closed and it was an hour after the park opened
3.) There was food out. If it was closed this means it was probably from the day before which is a major health code violation.

Some places open late, but there SHOULD be a sign... oh, and with Coasters, sometimes the person cleaning tables gets lazy and leaves tables... I'd love to be next shift.

At the Magic Kingdom, they do. Well, across the street, where once when I parked a bus in that manager lot, it was covered with shrapnel. This is the night that I decided at the last minute to go ahead and watch from inside the park and take my break in the proper place. Glad I did.felinefan wrote:Too bad they don't shoot them over the managers' parking area--

But that's only when they do perimeter fireworks. Where they launch Wishes doesn't affect any the parking lots.Big Wallaby wrote:At the Magic Kingdom, they do. Actually, it's pretty impressive from the Pluto lot. I got stuck there one night when driving Pluto shuttle. Yes, there is fallout, no it's not all that bad.
I think the fallout from Wishes out back is far worse.
The larger issue is the possibility of unexploded rounds falling out of the sky.
Having done fireworks details at ground zero in my FD days, it's a real possibility.

The ultimate would be to be on the Dead Man Crew for a shuttle launch. You're about 1000' away when they light that candle. Why is it called the "Dead Man Crew"?
Because you start out the only people on the ground within three and a half miles, and you're there to drive toward and go up to the cockpit when the astronauts are hopefully getting out and riding a zipline to a landing next to a bunker 1200' away, where an APC that accelerates 0-45 in 6.6 seconds is waiting so they can get away as quickly as possible. Again, you have at this point driven up to the launch pad to attempt to rescue the astronauts who you hope escaped before you get there.
I would both love and hate to be on that crew.

At DL, isn't the fallout in Toon Town? My friend always mentioned somehting about being locked in the [bleeping] Gag Factory.
Legend: Alligators dwell in the sewers beneath Disneyland.
Truth: There are no sewers below Disneyland, and therefore no alligators in them. The secret tunnels are infested with mutant rats, however.

The main launch site is behind the Toontown backdrop (for those familiar with that area, it's right next to the TDA parking structure). But they also launch from platforms attached to the Toontown backdrop. Quite a bit of fallout lands in Toontown, but the area right behind is where you find most of it. I know, I've been locked in the Gag Factory during fireworks, too.smart1hermione wrote:At DL, isn't the fallout in Toon Town?
