SGs, Why Did This Worry Them?

I'm all the time going to the shorter or non-existent line when everybody else is lining up behind the other guests. I did it last night at the Noodle Station, everybody else was getting in line behind people and I went straight for the empty side of the order taker.

I also don't hesitate to go for an empty turnstile when coming in as a guest even when everybody else is lining up for only a few. A quick glance tells me which ones are open and I go for the one with nobody waiting if there is one. I've noticed a lot of people tend to go for the turnstile the cast member is by instead of going for the empty ones.

I always have issues at the Haunted Mansion. There isn't a line queue until you get to the turnstiles. So all the sheeple are in a line on the right and I slid next to the wall on the left and people think that I'm cutting in the line. I am filling all available space, as directed by CM's everywhere in the parks!

Yup -- same thing for FastPass Distro.... So many times, they all try to line up where the CM is standing - meanwhile there are 3 or 4 machines with hardly anyone waiting...

Exactly -- as guests we're 'trained' to line-up so well that when we are supposed to 'fill-in' we aren't sure what to do, lol....

I do the same at the Aladdin show at DCA. SGs, there's no way we can efficiently fill the theater if we line up single-file in the vast space allotted to us. If I move forward to fill in all available space, as we were instructed, then everyone who wants to see the show will be able to do so. Something like this isn't a question of being familiar with the parks. It's matter of paying attention and thinking critically about what's being asked of you.

See I think the idea behind that is that I wouldn't be sure if that turnstile is open. I wouldn't want to walk up to it and find out that it's closed and have to go to the end of the line. That's what I would think anyway.

That's why there's an indicator on the front of the turnstiles. If it is open there's a green arrow and if it is closed there's a red 'X'. Also, normally if a turnstile is closed they'll put a cover over the ticket taker.

There's no reason why one cast member can't cover a few turnstiles. It is only when someone is having a problem getting through or if a CM is letting in guests that they actually do anything. Most of the time they are just greeting the incoming guests.

Wanna know how to really freak people out? In an enclosed space like an elevator, stand facing everybody else, back to the door. Smile. Guaranteed to really stir things up. :twisted:

Actually, unless I'm mis-remembering, I think they re-designed the HM's queue layout slightly during the refurb last year. There are now a couple "down-and-back" turns in the chains to keep a fairly orderly line of people going. But then when you reach the turnstiles, there are two of them and the area beyond it is more of a freeform fill-in-the-spaces area.

Though at certain times of the day, mostly when the sun is shining very brightly at midday at the MK, you can't see whether it's the X or the arrow until you're practically on top of the turnstile... That's not a problem at the non-south-facing turnstiles at Epcot or Studios, and AK's awning seems to shade the turnstiles better.

Going to the empty side of a cashier is one of those tricks I like to use, too. Sometimes I get dirty stares, but almost always after I get served by the CM half the line moves over behind me.

And while we're on the subject of the two-sided order-taking... WHY don't large groups understand that they'll get served much faster if they spread out? Even if they don't realize that there's two sides to a cashier's podium, there are usually multiple cashiers... They all just get in one single line, and then only every other order that cashier takes will be from their group. I can imagine that on some of the groups, the last people to order arrive at the tables to find that half their group is already done eating.

First, rather than wrapping themselves through the rope line that is there, they decide to just swing the line out into the sidewalk - totally leaving the rest of the rope queue EMPTY and holding up traffic. So as we approached the clod of people...

This sounds like a good plural for SGs. You know a gaggle of geese, a flock of seaguls, a clod of stupid guests. :D:
