Got one doozie of an SGT today.

I was working greeter when I see this guy try to walk out carrying a tray of food he hadn't paid for (he had completely skipped the register).

Of course, I stop him, and tell him that he has to pay for his food first.

He insists that he's a Hotel guest, and that it's going to be charged to his room. I tell him that he still has to go and show his key to the Cashier, and this goes back and forth for a few minutes.

Scary thing is, I honestly don't think he was trying to steal the food. He actually believed that somehow, we would figure out what he had bought, calculate the amount, and then charge it to his room without him doing anything .

Heh, we get that in the booths all the time too. People just walk on up and throw a credit card at you and say "Two" and the go back to talking to whom ever they are with. And there is one CM who goes right back at them and says "Two Premium Annual Passes it is!" and then the look of sheer horror on their faces when they think they are going to get billed $758 is priceless.

Then of course, you get the people who are unwilling to believe that the POS does math right and stand there and argue with you the cost till you do the math by hand for them. That is always a fun SGT when they pull that one.

My brother-in-law worked for Ford in the Parts and Service Division before striking out on his own. He had one wholesaler that had modified his invoice software so it would randomly slip a little extra money into the extended prices on invoices. It was years before he got caught.

Yeah, I love when the SG questions my math. I've had some SG go to the point of holding things up while they do the math in their head. That's when I kindly set the calculator in front of them so they don't sprain their brain.
Or I love when they say, "Four for Disneyland." I can see 2 children and 2 adults the window, but when I say back the order, "Four adults for Disneyland," they quickly say, "No, no,...."
The other thing I love is when a SG will come wanting to buy an annual pass. We ask which one and the SG says, "The regular one." I say,"Well, the regular one is the Premium to me. You would like a premium pass?" The look of horror on their face is priceless.

Hmmm, that sound like he watched "Office space" after reading the TPS reports!

The SG's mentioned must not travel very much. In this day and age, I keep track of when ANY card I have gets charged. (room key or otherwise)
I guess they dont realize that the resort keys are tied to a credit card, which makes them the same AS the credit card for purchases. (A fact that DW loves when at WDW!!, "I'll just put it on the room card, and it won't seem like that much!")(Arrrrhhhhhhh!!!!)

Maybe the guy with the food tray thought that the cards were RFID and would just change him, after all it IS the Magic Kingdom!

Had quite a few guests at the hotels try to pull the same SGT. Or they would bypass the line for my register and tell me to charge it to room X. Or they would try to charge their purchase on their room key.

I always had to come back with "FOR YOUR SECURITY we require the charge slip you received when you checked in AND a photo ID to charge anything to your room." Plus our POS systems then couldn't handle "charge to room X" or swiping a room key, and I suspect they can't handle it now since both are too open to fraud.

The other SGT about the POS systems I couldn't stand was when I was trying to locate a barcode because the item they brought me didn't have one, the guest would usually say "It costs X dollars". Usually they were right, but they didn't get that with any computerized POS system, the barcodes are there not just to tell us the price but also to record what we're selling.
