I accessed it this morning via the link given in the first post.

I read the article a few weeks ago in the magazine. It was not nearly as juicy as I thought it might be. It was kind of a disappointment.

I think reading this site offers much more insight than the article.

I just read it so the link is working, it takes you to page two though so if you want to start at the begining click page one first. I really didnt think it was that bad, it does give you some insight into working this type of position at Disney. We do have to remember that Disney is a business as most fo you know and they are there to make a profit, and profit is not a dirty word. They are very protective of their trademarks and you cant blame them. As an artist I have had a couple of professors lecture about owning the rights to you work and I have had some of my work used without permission or even credit given so I cant blame them for being careful about this sort of thing. Plus Disney is known for its magic, and while there are some of us out there that like to know how things work there are many that dont and Disney has been sued in the past because people saw characters without their heads on and the such and claimed it was tramatic to their children.

It sounds to me like this guy was a good Capt Jack, and all the Capt Jacks i have seen were great and I have probably seen him at DL a few times. It sounds like he was not only good at his job but enjoyed it also and that can really make a difference in how an employee/Cm does their job. Its not all about the money its about doing something you enjoy and i think all you CM's kknow this or you probably wouldnt be working for Disney. Its to bad the main thing that caused him problems was the appearence he was late for work a lot of time, but unfortunatly, if the only way your monitored is when you punch in you have to make sure you are punching in on time. i get the impression the other things might have been the decieding factor in his losing his job. Maybe without the points for being late the other couple of things might not have been a problem.

With all the digital cameras and video on phones you just never know what someone will shoot and post online, sounds like its not just the police who have to be careful these days.

This guy was definitely burned by Disney. He did site a bunch of things that, as a friend of many CMs, I think need to be fixed.

I totally agree with restricting myspace photos and blogging about getting the job. It ruins the magic, half of Disney's success is keeping things where they belong, backstage.

He really shouldn't have dressed like Jack to the premiere. Personally, I think it's a little weird to dress up for something like that. But he knew that it wasn't a good idea, should have been a sign to quit.

I understand that Disney runs a tight ship, and that's a good thing. It keeps scummy people out. But the points system NEEDS to be redone. I know a lady that's been working int he Star Trader for 15 years. She hit her 24th point and was kicked out.

I know that it isn't too groovy to write an article like that, but I found it very interesting. I also want to read that Kevin Yee book, Mouse Trap. Hopefully no one under the age of 12 reads that article though.

Alright, I just have to chime in about the points thing. Yes, they are very strict about, yes they didn't used to be, but it's changed and we have to live with it. Also, I don't know how you get fired for points. I know a few good CMs who have gotten fired for points, but seriously it's not exactly hard to avoid getting fired for points. I have worked there a little over 6 years, have always received discipline for points when I should've and have never received anything other than a verbal. For those who don't know, you have to get a verbal, then a written, then a 3 day suspension, then a 5 day suspension, then separation. If you manage to go a year without getting more discipline the whole thing resets. Even with that information, I've only been reset twice and currently have a completely clean record.

I read this article on another board, and I will admit that it got my dander up. This guy is whining because he broke the rules, admitted he broke the rules, and then got fired for it. Boo-hoo, cry me a river.

I have been through entertainment training, and I know better than to do anything he did:

1.) You don't blog about the audition process and put it out there, you at least have to pretend to be discrete
2.) Backstage photos are one of the biggest no-nos. You can be termed on that for the first offense, partly for security, partly for character integrity. He was told, and knew better but did it anyway
3.) Of course you cannot pretend to be drunk on Disney property. Disney property is G-rated, Pirates is PG-13, obviously something has to give. Gideon has the same problem, he may be a little tipsy, but never drunk.
4.) There is a reason that characters from different movies don't interact with eachother outside of parades and shows: partly because of theming, partly because of certain contractual rules regarding certain characters.

I could go on, but you get the drift. In every job, you will learn that certain "rules" are no big deal, and others have to be followed. The thing is, you take the time to learn it instead of saying that you know better and chucking the rules out the window. This yahoo is going to have a hard time getting a job with anybody in the future- he admitted in a national magazine that he had no respect for the rules that he was given, and then tried to air the company's dirty laundry after he suffered the consequences.

I loved my job and I abided by the rules because I understood why they were then and didn't think I knew better than the company. Yes, sometimes they can be tedious, but they are not arbitrary, they are there for a reason. If you are too stupid to realize that, then you're going to have a hard time holding onto any job.

I know that this crosses many, many lines... But Ariel and Captain Jack? very convenient pairing.

If his GF was employed by Disney when that pic was posted, good chance she isnt now. I have to say that is really uncalled for, there was no need to post a picture like that except to piss someone off. They shouldnt have even allowed themselves to be photographed like that.
