glendalais goes to WDW!

Post by glendalais » Sun May 11, 2008 4:47 pm

DLR Cast Scheduling has finally approved my request for a Leave of Absence, and I am happy to say that I will be going to WDW for the week of 25-31 May :D: . I'll be staying at the All Star Sports Resort, though I'm trying to see what I can do about getting moved over to the Pop Century.

I hope to be able to see a lot of the things that I missed during my first trip in January. I'm also looking forward to meeting many SGTers. If you're working that week, send me your schedule, and I'll try to come out and meet you :) .

Also, I have set up a series of meets (well, these are my dining reservations really, but the more the merrier, eh?), so if you want to meet up then, PM me so I can make the arrangements:

Sunday, 25 May 2008
7:45 PM, Raglan Road Irish Pub
Pleasure Island, Downtown Disney District

Monday, 26 May 2008
4:00 PM, Biergarten
Germany Pavilion, Epcot

Tuesday, 27 May 2008
4:30 PM, Hollywood and Vine Restaurant
Echo Lake, Disney's Hollywood Studios

Wednesday, 28 May 2008
I don't have anything planned, but if you want to meet up in the evening - I'm taking the Backstage Magic tour in the morning - contact me and we can arrange something.

Thursday, 29 May 2008
3:30 PM, Yak and Yeti Restaurant
Asia, Disney's Animal Kingdom Park

Friday, 30 May 2008
3:50 PM, Crystal Palace
Main Street USA, Magic Kingdom Park

Saturday, 31 May 2008
Again, I don't have anything planned. I'm leaving in the evening, so if you want to do something that morning, please contact me.

Does using the one I bought in January qualify as an SGT, lol? (I'm only half-joking  , I sorta forgot about whether or not it was permitted.)

By the way, can anyone suggest other interesting activities to do in the Orlando area? I like Disney, but I would like to see some of the region. Keep in mind that I will be reliant on public transport, since I won't have a car. And before anyone says Universal/Sea World, do Disney CMs get a discount there like we do at their equivlents here in Calif.?

It's gonna be expensive. Public transportation stinks; I live eight miles from the park and right on a major bus line and it still takes over two hours to get there or back.

No, Disney CMs don't get a discount at the competition. OTOH, Mears does run shuttles there at a fairly reasonable price. Book the day before though, and don't miss your bus back!

One local site not often mentioned is a theme park older than Disney. Gatorland is one of Florida's earliest parks, and recently celebrated their 50th year in business. It's on OBT about ten miles east of WDW.

Wow, you weren't kidding! I just ran some simulations on Lynx's website, apparently it would take 2 hours to go from the TTC to Universal City Walk (a distance of 0.46 miles) O_O. Add on the time getting to the TTC from All Star Sports and it would be faster if I got out and walked! (is that a viable option??)

It only takes me 40 minutes to get to the DLR by OCTA Bus, and I live 8 miles away, as well  ! How do you WDW CMs survive (particularly with the price of petrol being where it is)??

I guess I'm confined to WDW Property for the duration of my visit, and Gatorland looked so fun, too, lol.

Actually, from TTC to CityWalk is farther than .46 miles, it's more like 10.46.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Ever tried riding a bike? I did a ten mile one way commute by bike. It took me about half an hour each way. My fuel bill was about 5 oz. of chain oil a year. Your heart will love you.

The first time I visited WDW, some co-workers and I drove down from Georgia on a weekend. (we were at a training location) and the first place one of the guys wanted to do was go to Gatorland. We did, and I was glad. That place was just fun. Of cours, ya gotta have the pictures in front of the enterence that is the gator mouth!
