During one of the Aladdin's Oasis shows, when the jungle outfits were the same as Indy's (khaki pants, white shirt, brown fedora), a skipper on his last day added a leather jacket and whip to his costume to make it just like Indy's. In the middle of the show, he bursts onstage through the tiger's mouth, grabs the magic lamp out of Aladdin's hands, screams, "THIS BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!" and bolts. Backstage he ripped off his costume (under which he was wearing street clothes) and ran. He was never caught. There's a video of it somewhere out there, but I have yet to find it.
I've heard the tale of the skip who stole the lamp, and I'm not even in attractions - that one's legendary now.

No, I never heard anything else about the duck. I would never expect to, though. Sad to say, many a duck has met a tragic end at the magic kingdom, be it when they get in the way of a boat on storybook or jungle, or just perch themselves on an odd-looking barge that has somehow appeared in the rivers of america just prior to Fantasmic.

Here's another fun one: Lost & Found was 101 a few days ago. The roll-up window gear broke and they couldn't open it in the morning. Maintenance showed up and offered to roll it up manually, but then it would never come back down and there would be no way to secure the location when it closed later that night. We ended up having to have a makeshift Lost & Found run out of the Guest Relations window. It was hilarious to hear the "Lost & Found is 101" call over the radio - every plaid silently rejoiced at the news.

Also, if this was a while ago, I bet it was before direct deposit. Did he just never bother to pick up his last checK?
This is where it gets great: From what I hear, he had two friends in similar outfits hanging out in the park as decoys. One had bought a hot dog during the time of the show (and conveniently had the receipt to prove it) and another was a skip carrying his lunch across stage. By the time security interrogated both of them, they were thrown so far off his trail that he was scot-free. I don't know about the paycheck thing, but I think he stuck around until well after his shift (or did this well before it) so no one could prove it was him.

From what I heard GR went 101 one Christmas a few years ago. Apparently it was freezing rain, park was in final phased closing, both Christmas parades were canceled, and all outdoor rides were closed due to weather. There was almost a riot at GR and security/park mgmt made the very wise decision to close GR for the safety of the plaids.

CMGuy: That was 05. Have you seen the rainy day calvalcade parades sends out when it is raining? That stems from that day. After the first parade was cancelled, the guests stormed City Hall. They were expecting the parade, and expecting to see the talent (many don't realize we pretape the parade). City Hall called the PC (Production Center) and said, 'We don't care how you do it, but you have to send something for the second parade or there will be a riot". They got the covered Main Street vehicles and put the characters in them. We now do that for DDCT if it rains (as long as we have enough notice and as long as there is no lightning). We even have special music now, it's pretty cute.

Hippos: I cannot believe the audacity of that guy! I can only hope that this is an urban legend that refuses to die. I have no patience for that kind of behavior whatsoever. If you don't like your job, quit. But for God's sake, don't kill the magic and go out in a "blaze of glory." Some people are so selfish.

That's also known as burning your bridges as you never expect to go back. I only did it once when leaving a company. It was very very satisfying.

Thank God! Because that could easily get out of hand. One of the reasons I'm glad Epcot doesn't have a parade. Illuminations will usually go off unless there is a lot of wind or lightning nearby. Plus if it was ever cancelled I could sneak out the back way with the cast bus.

I'd hope they'd shut down with a lot of wind, as we're not too far from those fireworks barges when we're watching!

Though slightly OT, I was there in March one night and it was absolutely pouring rain and they still ran the show! It actually was kind of neat as we were hustling out of International Gateway to see them firing off all the shells and such. I've seen that show so many times (still my favorite show at WDW) but it was, well, different to see it in the rain. It sure didn't stop guests from queueing up early for the best viewing spots!

They will run the fireworks show rain or shine. Once the fireworks are loaded, they have a window in which they have to set them off. If they don't run it at the schedule time, they will shoot them off after park close.

We were there at the Christmas Party that year. It poured all evening and water was ankle deep, it was indeed freezing cold, all the outdoor rides and shows and parades were canceled, and it was a miserable evening. We got our free portrait photo taken looking like bedraggled bums and decided to leave the park. Luckily a woman we passed on Main Street mentioned that we could turn in our wristbands and get a refund, so we stopped at GR on the way out. They gave us an address to mail the wristbands to and we did get our money back a few weeks later. That was about mid-way through the party and I can just imagine the huge crowds that stormed in later that evening. No wonder they closed GR down.
