Disneyland Statistics Project Hilarity
So last year, I took a statistics class. Our final project was to find a correlation and prove/disprove a theory. In a group of 5 APs and 1 Disneyphile [me], of course we did the project at Disneyland. This is how it went:
Problem:
1. Who knows more: Passholders or Ticket Holders?
2. Men or Women?
3. Young people or Old people?
4. DCA attendees or DL attendees?
Questions:
1. What did the evil queen give Snow White?
2. Who is the villainess in Sleeping Beauty?
3. Which hand does Captain Hook have his hook on?
4. In what year was Disneyland opened?
5. Which Disney film was nominated for Best Picture?
6. Whose castle is in Disneyland?
7. What is the name of Walt Disney's brother?
8. What time do the Disneyland fireworks begin?
9. What does Timon mistake the stars for in The Lion King?
10. A spoonful of what helps the medicine go down?
Omitting the answers from non-english speakers and adorable uneducated children, here are some of our results:
-After 200 interviews, only 3 people answered 10/10 correct
-51 people got 0/10 correct.
-Average score for the day: 2/10
-Women correctly answered 4 questions more than men
-Passholders correctly answered 8 questions more then ticket holders
-Our favorite wrong answers:
3. Which hand does Captain Hook have his hook on?
both
4. In what year was Disneyland opened?
1700's or something, right? (popular answer)
5. Which Disney film was nominated for Best Picture?
James Bond
6. Whose castle is in Disneyland?
Mickey mouse, Disneyland's, the children's
8. What time do the Disneyland fireworks begin?
tomorrow?
10. A spoonful of what helps the medicine go down?
rum
That was a very entertaining day, I must admit. Disney security got on our backs a few times, but once they figured out that we weren't selling anything or attacking guests, they were A-OK.

I think I got 9 of 10. As for the tenth, I haven't been to DL in 40 years and so may be excused for not remembering the time of the fireworks show.Questions:

That's a great study. Hope you didn't get some anti-Disney professor.
Grumpy Pirate will be around to respond to #10 in a moment, I am sure. You can probably even hold your breath. After all, you did say "rum".
Oh, and since I've not seen you around here before, and I haven't seen you properly welcomed by the Marsupial Welcoming Committee,

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Can't resist answering, my answers in bold. I assure you I looked up none of these answers and will depend on someone else to tell me if i got any wrong and the answers to the ones I don't know.
I'm a WDW man and have never been to DL so (hopefully) can be forgiven for not knowing the time of the fireworks at DL.smart1hermione wrote:Questions:
1. What did the evil queen give Snow White? A poison apple
2. Who is the villainess in Sleeping Beauty? Ashamed to say I don't know, haven't seen the movie in a long time.
3. Which hand does Captain Hook have his hook on? Left at Disney, right in the original story
4. In what year was Disneyland opened? 1955
5. Which Disney film was nominated for Best Picture? More than one I would think but don't know.
6. Whose castle is in Disneyland? Sleeping Beauty Castle
7. What is the name of Walt Disney's brother? Roy O. Disney
8. What time do the Disneyland fireworks begin? I don't know, I can tell you the normal times for WDW fireworks though
9. What does Timon mistake the stars for in The Lion King? Ashamed to say I don't know, haven't seen the movie in a long time.
10. A spoonful of what helps the medicine go down? Sugar
Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

Actually the correct answer for #6 is nobody. It is Sleeping Beauty Castle, not Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Just as the one at WDW is Cinderella Castle.

2: Maleficent
5: Yes, poorly worded question. Were you referring to ANY Disney film or specifically animated films? If animate, it was Beauty and the Beast
If any, there are a few (even more if you count "Disney owned" studios like Miramax, Touchstone, etc.)
8: I don't know, I've never been to Disneyland.. Only WDW..
9: Firefly's

And the professor loved our project. A+'s all around.
For most of our questions, we scattered Disney Trivial Pursuit cards all over and picked at random.
For the academy award question, we meant animated, so the answer was Beauty and the Beast.
Before asking the questions, we asked the survees (surveyed?) Their age, whether they had been to DCA that day, and if they had an annual pass. So many people got confused.
"Well, my ticket works for the other park all year!" (2fer person)
"Where's California Adventure? It that near Indiana Jones?"
"Isn't Disneyland open all year?"
Wha-?
For the fireworks, it was 9:25, which I think was the standard time for last year summer season (might be wrong).
What was pretty cute was asking younger kids. We wanted the age range to span 4-100, so we'd find little kids and ask their parents if it was okay to ask them questions. The parents would OK it because they were just waiting in line, but most kids we asked wouldn't look at us, saying they weren't allowed to talk to strangers. :p:
