When my nephew was 14 he announced to his mother that if he drank a bottle of Mountain Dew every day he couldn't get a girl pregnant. This resulted in an instant birds and bees discussion. I think there was also some oral hygiene thrown in for good measure.

That thing about aspartame I saw on quackbusters.com; they say the same thing about aspartame breaking down over 86 degrees. It's also been blamed for Gulf War Syndrome; they have pallets of aspartame sweetened soda sitting out in 140 degree heat, and they drink it constantly. Sugar is Generally Accepted As Safe; your body breaks it down in nothing flat. Saccrine and other artificial sweeteners make you fat because they interfere with the breakdown process. Nobody got fat from drinking soda when they were made with sugar, now that sodas are made with corn sweeteners, people are getting fat from them; corn sweeteners also screw up your body processes.

With corn being used more for biofuel, they should go back to sweetening soda with sugar; we would all benefit from it.
